Aged with oak wood infused with 100% Canadian Rye Whisky. Mellow and smooth with a soft clean finish - with notes of honey, vanilla and caramel. Easy drinking and perfectly balanced with hints of rye, spice and oak. We released our first batch of Jon’s beer at Session Toronto – a collaboration beer release party in June of 2015. Monty’s Golden Ryed Ale was born and was an instant fan favourite. This beer came in at 5.5% alcohol by volume with notes of honey, oak and vanilla. Fast forward to Spring of 2017, we’re excited to have re-released Monty’s beer but with a twist: It’s packed more whisky and oakwood for even more hone, vanilla and caramel flavours. It now clocks in at 6.2% alcohol by volume with some deeper malt sweetness and rye whisky spice. To signal a new beginning, we’ve tweaked the name to Monty’s Aged Ryed Ale.

The beer pours a reddish-gold colour with a bubbly light tan head which lasts a few minutes. Lacing is decent. The aroma is light rye, weak spices, freash bread, and earthy hops. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is rye malt, a light peppery spice, and a light bitter finish. There is a hint of whiskey in the taste, but nothing overbearing.

473ml tallboy from LCBO. Pours an average size frothy beige head that dissipates to a very thin layer. Has a light amber coppery appearance. Weak lacing. Lively carbonation. Medium retention. Aromas of bready and toasty malts, hints of caramel. Flavours of rye and toasty malts are at the forefront followed by some subtle notes of caramel. Some sweet malt notes as well. Slick and smooth mouthfeel. Not bad.

Pours a slight hazed golden-amber colour with a fizzy off-white head that does not stay long, with no lacing. Very whiskey rye aromas with some butterscotch notes, vanilla and something that is quite spicy, but piercing, so not in a good way. Kind of medicinal, from weird hops. The taste is sweet on the butterscotch side with the wood nicely blended in and some hints of smoke. A little too rich overall, but a decent rye and oak wood infused brew. A nice try, but must balance things more - and get rid of this sharp smell.
