One of the more expensive beers at Pub Italia in Ottawa. It just happens to be the only stout I have not tried yet (available there). After having a few Italian lagers with supper, this was great for desert and complete the night. Poured a dark brown colour with lots of red highlights and a big foamy-creamy light brown head. Light dark fruits scent with notes of milk. Hop did come out eventually near the end as it warmed up. Mild roasted malts with decent bitterness in the finish, creating some dryness. After breathing a while, notes of apples appear in the aftertaste. A bit watered-down and not really worth the price, but worth trying once. Expected a bit more of a creamy mouthfeel as it was written "Superbly Smooth" on front label. Also, did not taste the "port" they added in this. Too bad, as I am a fan of port.

Bottle: Poured a clear black color stout with a good size foamy head with good retention and good lacing. Aroma of dry roasted malt notes with some subtle notes of port. Taste is also an average mix between some dry roasted malt notes and some sweet port notes. Body is a bit too thin for the style in my opinion with some good carbonation. I guess this is OK but not something I would necessarily seek again.

The beer was as dark brown as you can go without turning black. Brown bubbly crown with good retention and leaves some spotty / ropy lacing. The aroma is quite appealing with sweet berry candy being the most defined followed by a slight roast, faint chocolate and caramel - also an odd smoke that is not your typical 'smoky' aroma (I need to open another one down the road to see if I can nail that down better). The taste is pretty good with the sweetness hitting first, the middle consisting of roasted malts, portish flavour (definetly not a Tawny), very weak chocolate and a larger than expected piney hop content. The flavour finishes with coffee undertones early on in the glass. Full bodied. Very smooth mouthfeel, tangy middle and enough piney bitterness to not ruin it. Leaves the mouth feeling happy....leaves the mouth feeling very dry after I poured the bottom of the bottle in my glass while being careful not to disturb the sediment on the bottom (I don't do that too often). Excellent beer.

Brew pours dark, dark brown with a massive crown floating on top in my glass I have five inches of beer and 5 inches of head the at the very top is shaped like a nipple, this brew gets a bounce point for looking like a nipple. Aroma is ok nothing great comprised of mild hops that remind me of celery lots of darker smelling malts, a touch of coffee, and a strange sent what I will only call “green smoke” (if you catch my drift) aroma is very mild but is pleasing. My god this is a very tasty stout!! Rich tasting slightly bitter coffee, all kinds of spices are being detected in the flavor but I can’t seem to but my finger on what any of them are, a very nice fruitiness is in the back of the taste is this the port they added? The malt character is very rich and seems to give the beer a burnt character , so tasty. Dam tasty high quality brew, this is very well crafted and unique but still remains in the true style of a stout.

Pours black with red hints. Nice tan head with lacing. Aroma of spices (peppermint?) , citrus, and hops/malts. The mouthfeel is smooth and hearty. Flavor of coffee, bitterness, and ginger.

Pours a dark reddish brown with a thick rocky brown head that shrunk down to thin whisps of foam, minimal lacing. Aroma is roasted chocolate first, with quite a bit going on behind it, caramel, figs, oak, port, rum, and some slightly smoky coffee. Flavor starts mildly sweet with toffee, port, and chocolate, then turns sharply dry with a slight acidity, finishing with raisins, burnt chocolate, and some oaky flavors. Interesting beer, definitely worth a try.

This beer definitely had an explosive pour, very thick tan head that grows rapidly and fades equally as fast. Appropriate name as the color is a deep dark ruby color. Mild mouthfeel with heavy roasting, malt & coffee flavor, only a very mild port taste.

Poured with a thick puffy tan head that just kept on rising. When the head finally settled, it left a thick lacing upon the glass that stayed throughout. The body actually appeared a deep ruby red when held to the light. The aroma was a floural as well as a bit nutty. The taste backed up what the aroma hinted at and was rather tasty. Overall, VERY drinkable and smooth going down.

Dark brown body isn't quite black. Sandy head lingers for a while, but eventually fade completely. Sweet chocolate covered cherry aroma, but faint. The flavor is dry up front, a little roast, a little wood. In the end there's this little bubble of grapes. It's fleeting and not strong, but there and it adds a little interest to what would otherwise be a boring stout. There can't be a lot of port in here. The mouthfeel is soft and airy.
