This beer poured with a deep amber/brown body topped by a fluffy light brown head leaving pretty nice lace. Aroma is sweet caramel malts with some spicy notes as well, body is fairly light. Flavor is sweet bread, cinnamon, nutmeg, caramel malts and a faint hoppy bitterness in the finish.

Mildly fruity and lightly toasty. Deep copper brown body, thick off white head and nice lacing. Balanced with a quick sweetness within a medium light bodied brew. Biscuits, floral hops and a hint of mixed berries. Nice simple Northern English Brown with some American hop influence. Drinkable beer that was pleasant to the palate.

i didn;t realize this one was catergorized as a brown as it's pretty heavily spiced...and not well. I love North Coast, but after giving this beer a second, third chance, etc, I won't drink it again. Easily their weekest offering ever.

had at Hops House Brewpub after the SHiner Brewery... happy to see this is a brown ale and not a spiced, cuz this ain't no winter warmer folks. Dark ruby tan ..low head..not bad lacing either...somewhat muddled taste, but non offending.....good but not great...low smell..a made for the masses winter beer if anything.

I love finding new beer stores. This wasn't available at my usual place. There's this little market near my school that I've driven by many times. I finally stopped in there today. I was expecting just to find typical college beer fair (PBR, Bud, etc.) but was pleasantly surprised. They not only had a well-stocked case, but they had tons more singles in the cooler. The message here is to check out places you've avoided in the past. I wanted to like this a lot more than I do. I love this brewery and was expecting more from their seasonal offering. Poured an orangish brown with a decent head that left minimal lacing. Scent is primarily malt with some spices hiding. Taste is almost citrusy, but more like mellons. There's a bit of a hop bite, but not much else. Mouthfeel is creamy and somewhat refreshing. Overall, this isn't much of a typical winter offering. It's not bad and certainly not offensive, but considering the exceptional beers this brewery is known for (Pranqster, Old Raspy), this just doesn't measure up.

Dark brown in color with a shortish head. Malty sweet aroma - a bit disappointing and meek for what is supposed to be a winter warmer. Thin, watery mouthfeel - again disappointing. A bit porter-like in it's taste with some sour raisin notes. Overall it was drinkable, but the product is not the bill of goods that was promised.

Alright brew. Seems like it got confused with trying to be a tripel and a spiced holiday beer. I love the winter brews but this year is a disappoint so far.

White lettering on a blue background, with a snowflake or two. The label is pretty boring, and represents the contents very well -- this is to say, a very boring and dull "winter" beer. I know from first-hand expeirence that it gets damn cold/rainy/snowy up where the brewery is (Ft. Bragg, CA), but the natives wouldn't want this to warm up to. No alcohol, no spice, no significant hoppiness, nada. I could say that this tastes like a blend of old Rasputian Imperial Stout and old Red Seal (both made at the North Coast brewery), but even that blend would probably have more character than this. //TB

2002 version Medium brown color, small head. Aroma is malty, sweet and spicy (nutmeg?). A lighter bodied winter beer. Mild malts are spiced with nutmeg, cinnamon and coriander and ??. Starts out sweet and mellows to a spicy, slightly hoppy bitterness. Flavor is a little light for a winter beer, and its a little thin tasting, but there is something I like about this beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

Another veggie spice brew. This one came from dasilky1's beer closet. Lots of flavor, lots of spice. The distribution of flavor is all overthe place, going from wood to grapefruit to nutmeg. A understated rust color, average head. An all around enjoyable brew.
