A murky copper-orange colored beer with a decent frothy textured, off white head rising above. There's good hang time on the head and impressive lacing of clingy thick film and ringlet. A strong citric hoppiness on the nose. There's a bitterness from that citric presence in the tasting balanced with a sweet malt. Crisp and refreshing.

Its amazing to think in Portland this beer is available at every tom dick and harry it seems like. A bit more of a rarity in these parts, with a elevated price to match, still worth it. Simple, perfect West Coast IPA. Grapefruit and Pine, medium bodied, light complimentary fruitcake/dough. Drinks like its barely bitter. Excellent

I picked up this beer from the Nugget supermarket in El Dorado Hills, California. This was a nice beer but I wasn't blown away. I had the AleSmith IPA as my next beer and immediately forgot about this one. I have heard the Tricerihops is good and will seek that out next.

12 oz bottle. Pours hazy copper orange with a big fluffy white head that retains well and laces the glass.
The aroma is sweet grainy caramel malt and grassy fruity cascade hops.
The flavor is sweet bready malts with a huge grassy bitterness in the finish with some metallic fruit notes. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with low carbonation.
Overall, reminds me of a way over the top SNPA. The bitterness had some off notes and was a bit unpleasant (almost charred) in the aftertaste. -

Ahh.. The Total D. I've had this more times than I can count and I've only been in Portland for...3 months? Any way, got one chillin in the fridge ready to opened as I speak. Pours a dark amber, usually a pretty bad-ass head. Hops totally dominate this brew- hence the name. Flavors are wicked hoppy, lots of pine, lots of grapefruit rind. Aroma is floral, semi-fruity and very fresh.

I have a fondness for this one. One of first true West Coast IPA experiences, drunk somewhere in Portland. If I could write a three word review, it would say "Proper West Coast IPA". And if I could count...

not a bad little ipa. medium bodied and a bit chewy. more malt presence than i usually prefer, but the weetness works fairly well. big floral hoppy aroma and a good dose of bitterness in the back end of the flavor.

Aroma is strong and hoppy with a fruity underpinning that is surprisingly more pomme (apple/pear) than citrus and a firm hint of yeast. It pours a clear dark amber with a thick, though not persistent, white head that leaves some good lacing. Flavor is hoppy and woody, somewhat bitter, with a somewhat sweet undertone of pear and a hint of honey. Fizzy and smooth texture leaves a hoppy, fruity and slightly woody finish.

The aroma of this beer hits you right when you pour hit. Strong hoppy citrus smell. Appearance is a deep orange in color and has a little hazy to it with a Huge white head when poured. Thick full mouthfeel. The flavor was superb. Very hoppy with just enough bitterness chased by faint citrus notes.

I really, really hope that sometime in the future that brewers will be required to put a bottling date on their products. Since they don't seem to have the motivation of doing it, perhaps there can be a ground roots movement to persuade them and help them see the light. IPA's should never been in position like the one I had last night, because anyone who's just now getting into the love of the style would be sorely disappointed. If this isn't an old beer, then my opinion of Ninkasi has just dropped a notch.
The beer pours out a very nice golden-orange body, mostly clear with an off-white fluffy cap. Aroma was mostly dominated by malts and toasted bread. The hops were just buried under the malts, which is a crying shame. Flavor was just as strong in the malt department, and it seems that this beer is aptly named. The malts had total domination over any inkling of hops that were used in the receipe. Either this was an old bottle and the hops had faded (and if so, shame on them for not dating their bottles) or the hops where never there in the first place, and that should be equally disappointing to them, especially coming from Oregon. I've had other Ninkasi products so I know they are quality brewers. This however, was not a quality IPA. At least this bottle wasn't.
