Smoky, earthy aroma has nutty, yeasty and hoppy hints. It pours a beautiful opaque dark-chocolate brown with a fairly thick and persistent tan head that leaves some generous lacing. Sublime flavor has smoky, roast malt, coffee, nutty, earthy and toffee notes of varying prominence, quite tasty. Texture has good body and fizz - not full-bodied, but still impressive. Heartily recommended.

Bottle courtesy of rustychiles. Pours dark brown with a tan head. Smells of sweet malt, light spice. Tastes of chocolate, some light roasted malt, some cocoa splashes on the finish.

I'm going to try this one again after my sniffer gets a little better. But what I could pick up was some lactic character in the nose, light smoke and some roasted malts. Flavor was coffee, dark fruits and dark chocolate. Wasn't really sweet for a sweet stout. Happy to knock off my Arizona beer rating in my quest for all 50 states. I'm going to revisit this beer, since I have 5 more.

Pours near black with a very thick long lasting dark tan head. Aroma is strong espresso, some nuttiness and grass, with slight hints of dark chocolate and anise. Flavor starts with dark roast coffee and some smoke, followed by a thinning out of the palate, some strong charred and toasted nuts mix with some lactic sourness before finishing out dry with a roasted and slightly sour aftertaste. This reminds me of a few English brewed oatmeal stouts, spot on. A nice, easy drinking stout, recommended.

Around 2002 or so, with a brand new car, and a full weekend free, I decided to take a road-trip to Arizona, to check out the beer scenes of Tucson and Phoenix, maybe pick up some local offerings, and maybe grab some New Belgium stuff too (NB didn't come to CA officially until 2005 or so). Well, to make a long story short, I found plenty of worthwhile brewpubs, but for bottled AZ microbrewed beers? No luck.

Nimbus was on my list back then, but only some four-and-a-half years later, has a Nimbus beer finally crossed my path. Worth the trouble and hype? Well, I don't know about the rest of the Nimbus stuff, but this particular beer is pretty damn tasty!

Very worthy in all aspects, it seems to me. Nice in the nose, aluding to the roasted character from the get-go. Immediately appealing in the smooth and yet not boring mouthfeel. I have to assume that the oatmeal helps this aspect more than a little. Very nice roasted character to the flavor profile. Dry and quaffable, without being too dry and vaguely sour (ala "Irish Style"). Just a very nice Stout, that doesn't try to get too cute or avant garde.

A very solid and well-made Stout -- and that's coming from someone who isn't a huge Stout drinker. Thumbs up here.

Pours a pitch black with a large tan head. The aroma is chocolatey and roasty with a mellow backup of the earthy hops. Nice big balance of flavors. Not a bad little stout here.

This sweet stout pours an eclipse black color from a 12oz bottle. Large sized white beige foamy head with strong lacing. Aroma is chocolate, vanilla and coffee, kind of sweet. A medium bodied sweet stout. Malts are chocolate and coffee. The beer is a little lactic tasting, but very mild and only a little distracting from all the coffee flavors. This could be because the beer is turning or could from all the vanilla and cocoa flavors. Good balance of the chocolate, malt and coffee flavors. The lactic taste sort of works in this beer, I would rather it NOT be there but… Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

This beer comes courtesy of beerguy101..thanks again mitch. This beer pours a black color with a thin tannish head and excellent lacing throughout the course of drinking. Active carbonation throughout. The aroma is sweet....vanilla, chocolate, cocoa, roasted barley, oak and smoke are the predominant aromas. The flavor is smokey as well with vanilla, chocolate and a sweet vanilla grain finishing this beer. A bit dry, but overall fairly full bodied and ever so slightly lactic..most likely due to the vanilla. Sweet with slight hop bitterness in the finish. High carbonation levels, but good for a change. Some hints of nuttyness as well towards the finish...chocolate and cocoa everywhere...impressive!

Solid stout, but nothing too spectacular. Pour is pitch black with a medium tan head that dissipated quickly and didn't lace. Aroma of sweet malts/oatmeal, with a strong coffee tone, and a tad of dark fruits and chocolate. Taste is to match, but dominated mostly by the coffee. Was hoping to get more of the tones I got in the nose, but was still very solid. Rock on Tucson!
