I tried this beer on August 26, 2008 at “Smokeless Joe’s” in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The beer poured a reddish brown with a thin white head. The aroma was sweet malt. The mouthfeel was medium bodied, aith medium carbonation. The flavour was sweet malt, with a definite bitterness in the finish. A good beer, but not a great beer.

The thing that strikes me about this beer first is that the label was very simple, looked like something you would find at a dollar store to put around your beer cozy. The aroma was a nice malt backbone, with some hoppish hints. The flavour was sweet caramel malt with candy apple hints. Good, but there are better bocks.

Bottle from the brewery day of release. Poured a clear dark cola brown into the glass with a whispy 2 finger off white cap. Aromas of toasty malts, bready, nutty and some dried fruit. Medium body, smooth bready drinkable charcater, silky mouth feel. Up front a wonderful chew on a thick mixture of toasty Munich and Vienna malts..nuts, sweet dough, toast..wunerbar! This mellows midpalate as the Hallertauer, Tettnanger and Perle hops lightly balance and provide a woody-herbal tone to the complex maltiness and leads into the finish which is wet, lightly sweet ( but not cloying), bready with nice herbal under tones and a bittering after taste...a very well constucted Dunkler Bock in the Bavarian fashon...spring is just as good as a time to quaff this dark Germanic elixer. Prosit! Nickel Brook, another winner!
