We aim to pleasantly surprise with our winter ale, a unique Limited edition brew with the drinkability you expect from Newcastle. Our recipe echoes the style of 18th century India Pale Ales, which were subtlely higher hopped than British pale ales. This brew has a seductive malt, caramel and zesty character which accompanies a balanced and creamy finish. Our inspiration for this unexpected winter brew? Well, we just want to make our long British winters more palatable!

Don't expect an "IPA", cause if you review it based on that then...the rating should be even lower than this. I think I am being kind of generous here, because this is a weak beer. Advertised as an IPA...where's the malt? where's the hops? I agree, more like an ESB or EPA at best. Wet dog aroma. Thin light amber appearance. If anything, this is refreshing....something you can drink a lot of with fish and chips or something. Haven't had a Newcastle that I really enjoyed yet. Disappointed and think I am done here. Leave this beer overseas!

Pours a little thin and dark for an IPA. Thin mouthfeel. Taste is malty and not hoppy at all. It would be a stretch to even classify this as a pale ale. Also, I'm not sure what makes this a "winter IPA" but it's not a bad beer.

A deep bright amber colored beer with a small foamy textured off white head rising briefly above. Settles into a thick ringlet. The nose light. The tasting as expected more pronounced. Sour biscuity mash. Some earthy hops do nothing to balance the beer. Medium bodied and smooth. Tasty enough.

Pours a dark copper, a bit brownish, capped by a finger of whitish froth.Biscuity, toasty malts in the nose with a leafy, earthy hop scent underneath.Flavors of biscuit, whole-grain toasty malts with small amount of toffee sweetness. Leafy, faintly woodsy hop profile with no more than enough bitterness to balance out the sweetness. Finishes near-dry with a small amount of bitterness lingering into the aftertaste.Medium-thin body. Medium carbonation. It may be a bit thin, but it still has some creaminess to it.

nice head, but the body clearly filtered - overly so. anything in the generic newcastle house malt flavor that works in a brown ale (by no stretch a greatbeer but not offensive) does NOT work in an ipa. this is actually laughable as an ipa, english style or not. little hop presence except to contradict the muddled malt flavor and add a touch of bitterness. this beer is a waste of time. got thrugh 10 oz of 12 before pouring. absolutely don;t get the higher scores.

Sample on 12/3/2011. This IPA pours a light gold color from a 12oz bottle. Medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is malty, caramel and fruity. A medium to light bodied IPA. The malts are fruity and sweet, touch of caramel. The hops are earthy and floral. A lighter bodied English Style IPA. It seems more like a ESB/Bitter than an IPA. Nice carbonation. Nice finish. Touch of bitterness at the finish. Not quite sure how or why its marketed as a winter beer, maybe the Winter in Jamaica or some where tropical this would be a good winter beer. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

Pours a clear dark amber with a nice fine-bubbled pale tan head. Aroma is hoppy, a little malty and a little spicy. Hoppy, spicy flavor makes it taste somewhat like an IPA mixed with a winter warmer - distinctive and interesting. Texture is firm-bodied, edgy and fizzy, leaving a nice, if not persistent, tingle. Look for it.

A nice looking beer. -clear coppery amber. Thin flat head that does not stay. Baerly visible lacing. Thin and watery, just a disappointment. A breif hint a caramel in the nose. I have more in the sixer - I´ll try this one again, but am leaning to drain pour this stuff. This missed any targets. Tried fresh brew from store. Still not a beer that I like, maybe the IPA, to awful fruity for me, overpowering hops.

It pours a dark copper and brown with a thin white head and fairly copious lacing. An aroma of caramel malts, hops, lemon and citrus zest, bitterness, breads, and some spiciness. The mouthfeel is smooth and rich. Flavors of caramel malts, hops, lemons and citrus, bitterness, breads, and spiciness. Excellent .. feels like a "natural" British ale..
