A few times a year, we will cut Dan loose to brew whatever he chooses, uncensored, uncut, unplugged. Always handcrafted, this beer is brewed for the adventurous soul. This is a very limited edition and we make no promises to ever brew this style again. Fourth in our series this is Dan's "Unplugged Imperial Stout." This beer is handcrafted for you with the same care that English brewers used when they brewed Imperial Stouts for the Russian Royal Family. This is a strong beer brewed with lots of black barley. Back home that makes this beer an excellent candidate for lying down in your beer cellars.

05.27.05 12oz bottle via trade with Facto. Black, black, black pour with huge and fluffy dark brown head. Aroma is creamy and roasty with mild dark chocolate notes, burnt pastry, molasses. No detectable hops on nose. Flavor is mild and balanced along the lines of Sam Smiths but slightly less sweet. Leaves an earthy, charcoal, dirt roastiness behind on the palate. Leaning towards chalky. Coffee really comes through in aftertaste. No noticable alcohol in flavor or on nose. Really, this brew seems too dry, although not bitter enough, and is lacking in body and sweetness. Kind of a bummer from this great brewer.

Pours oily and silent. A very dark mahogany in the pouring stream turns to black in the glass. The head is oddly light, too light to even qualify for a lighter shade of khaki, but has this odd grayish cast. Fads to a fuzzy weather pattern. The aroma is wood char and a citrus, giving it a surprising smell. The flavor is drier than many imperial stout, the wood char being up top, but not overwhelming, and fading to dark chocolates and esters. Interesting imperial stout. Quite drinkable, but not what I was expecting.

Thx to Captain Couger for this one jet black, large bubbled tan head that dies quickly. The body was pretty light for an imperial stout. It really didn't hav ethe roastiness I was looking for. it had a very benign, easy drinking taste, not the 'big' beer I was expecting

A small tan head on topped the thin, black body. Aroma of brown sugar, walnuts and some mushrooms. The taste was deep caramel and toffee. Later, coffee and dark chocolate come out. Fairly bitter. The alcohol was not well hidden. Farily bitter. The dark chocolate taste lingers. I think this would be a good beer to age.

Black with a light brown head. Mild coffee aroma to it which follows to the flava, with an addition of chocolates, but not really dark chocolates, more like herhey syrup. Not great, but still good.

Dark black pour with bitter finish. Minimal head and lingering bitter finish.

This imperial stout pours with a black body topped by a thick, brown, long lasting head with a good amount of lacing. The aroma is slightly sweet and malty with nice notes of mocha, a slight bitterness and a bit of sourness. The flavor is sweet and malty with mocha notes and finishes bitter and roasty with coffee notes and a touch of hops. Full bodied and smooth.

Poured an opaque black color with a tan head and nice lacing. Aroma of cheese, hops roasted malts, and chocolate. It had a ripe sweet taste followed by chocolate and coffee. The mouthfeel was rather raw. And yes the peanut M&Ms were a big hit with this one.
