Prickly pear and passion fruit mingle together for New Belgium’s return to farmhouse ales. Prickly Passion Saison is truly a beer for Belgian inspiration. The combination of passion fruit and prickly pear juices with the tropical esters of a traditionally earthy Saison yeast create a wonderfully broad and reaching mango-like character. Ostentatiously amber, this Prickly Passion Saison is sure to provoke the palate with a passionate prick, turn that bottle over and take a sip.

22oz bottle -
Aroma - vegetal, light fruit, bread/yeast and really light citrus
Appearance - clear golden orange body, 2-finger white head, average retention, no noticeable lacing
Mouthfeel - medium-full bodied, medium carbonation, astringent
Flavor - fruity and earthy, almost like some really overripe fruit nearing spoilage. Straw and light spice, finishes with a light malt sweetness.
Overall - for what you get it's definitely overpriced. I've had prickly pears before and to me it doesn't have a defined flavor and I couldn't really get any p/p in this beer. -

Theres nothing like the zzzziiiiippp of a saison yeast towards the beginning of fall. This one is sweet with a tart complex prickly pear flavor that reminds me of those boxes of candy they sell in New Mexico. The head was good but dissipated quickly. Rich flavor overall.

First SAISON...Poured a burnt orange cloudy liquid. Head was extremely thin and dissipated in a matter of seconds with spotty lacing. Aroma was fruity, caramels. Taste seemed slightly sour, fruit and bready. This beer is not my Cup of tea. Not a terrible beverage and just not for me.

Sampled on 3/23/2012. This saison pours a medium orange gold color from a 22oz bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is fruity and sweet, with a touch of passion fruit and prickly pear. A medium bodied saison. The malts are fruity and sweet, with a hint of passion fruity and prickly pear. The hops are herbal. Decent carbonation. Slightly spicy. The fruit flavors are mostly in the background. Nice bright yeasts. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

22oz bottle. Pours clear golden amber with a medium creamy white head that goes to a thin film and leaves some lacing.
The aroma is sweet fruits, flowers and spicy musty yeast.
The flavor is sweet fruits, banana and toasty malts with some rye-like spice and a fairly dry finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with smooth carbonation and a little watery.
Overall, an interesting beer, but not one I'd search out. -

Bought at D&Q, part of my Xmas present haul .. . pours a light ruby amber .. medium headring .. light sticky spots of lacing .. . i'm having pancakes for dinner tonight .. . good dose of sweetness- twisted honey, pear skin, vision quest, summer fruit, and honeysuckle melon. . . what this? -its latin - a latino huh? i thought he was english.. . has a touch of dryness to it, and its very drinkable- the abv is done to a T .. . Pretty good stuff - I enjoyed it and would recommend it .. . . must eat, haven't snacked in hours, can't feel my eyes, wonder if club footed midgets get justice in heaven...

I really like the fruit choices in this saison. Prickly pears are tough to work with, can have a lot of off flavors and smells. This was very clean, though slightly metallic at the end. It's a darker colored saison, not as pale as typical. Big and fruity to start with a nice dry finish.

a nice saison...kind of a strnage choice for a winter brew, though. spring, or maaaaybe summer sould work. nice mix of saison funk & spice, and fruit, in the aroma and flavor. good beer, but for $9, there's better out there. dry, fruity, spicey finish. medium-heavy feel for the style.

Comes out of the tap a clear, dark reddish amber with a thick, fine-bubbled, pale golden head that leaves some good lacing. Strong, crisp, fruity aroma has notes of pear, banana and - is that prickly pear? I get a hint of pomegranate. Rich, fruity, malty flavor has banana, pear and butterscotch notes - and what must be prickly pear cactus. Smooth, firm-bodied, lively texture leaves a satisfying fruity and fizzy finish.

Interesting aromas of passion fruit, floral hops, hay, alcohol, and candi sugars. Deep yellow with orange hue body, cap is sparse with some random lace. Flavors follow the aroma withsome caramel showing, mouthfeel has some carbonation up front, smooth finish. Overall its pretty good.
