A deep-dark mahogany colored beer with a small foamy textured, off white head that rose all too briefly. There was no lacing when it settled. A light caramel presence in the nose. A fruity-caramel sweetness in the tasting. Some citric hops are lightly noted. A medium bodied beer. Nothing outstanding, but drinkable.

Pours a lovely amber, more than average mouth feel, nice full flavor that goes well will meal or by its self. Found this one 3000 miles from home, helped make the trip worthwhile!

Sampled on 3/31/2009. This amber ale pours a dark amber color from a 22oz bottle. Small sized white foamy head, with nice lacing. The aroma is caramel malts and some floral spicy hops. A medium bodied amber. The malts are caramel and sweet. The hops are floral and slightly spicy. Lively carbonation. Interesting beer, its not really sweet like an amber and has a decent hop bite. Very clean tasting. Would be a good session ale. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

well, of the 3 new Napa Smith brews, I liked the wheat the best, even though i usually like amber and pales better. another reviewer of this brewery said they are too "slick" and i could see where he's coming from, especially with the pale...but this one was pretty slick too. fairly good and very drinkable, but left me wanting more complexity and a touch more flavor. couldn't tell there was 7 malts and 4 hops. Not to be all negative, though. I liked it and would drink it again, but other ambers I've had for the same price are better, most recently Redpoint from Avery. Good, though...more malt than hops, even in the finish. With a little heavier hop presence i'd have rated it higher, cuz the malt use is nice, but like i said, it's a little too simple and slick to be among my favorites.
