A deep brown colored beer with notes of redness. There’s a big frothy textured light brige colored head rising above. There’s some hang time on that head. A thin ringlet and light persistent cap are left. Caramel, biscuit malt in the nose and more intense in the yasting. Some light nuttiness and grassy notes in the tasting as well. Light and slick on the tongue.

Had as Boatswain H.L.V. (Heavy Lift Vessel) Ale. Aroma has hardly any strength or notes, scarcely smells like beer at all. Pours a dark, barely translucent sepia with a thick, if not persistent, light buff head. Flavor is malty, a little hoppy, rather bitter - and a nasty bitter, not a nice hoppy bitter. Smooth texture has OK fizz but not much body. Barely palatable, not one to which I will return.

Yet another terrible Boatswain beer. I'm glad that I'm not the one who keeps shelling out the cash for this trash. This one is dark brown, and a slight sudsy head. Couldn't smell anything. Taste is sssooooo sweet, with a syrup-like body. Glad I did not have to drink the whole bomber by myself. Both of us were shocked at how "off" this beer tasted. But it is Minhas from Trader Joe's, so it is to be expected.

Aroma: Sweet grain. Appearance: Thick pour. Deep amber to mahogany in color. One finger foam head. It's thick and creamy and it leaves a fine lacing. So far, I think this is a bock beer so I'll call it that. Mouthfeel: A little thinner than expected. Flavor: Metal. Sweet tobacco. Stale, wet grain. Bitter finish. Overall: Not bad for a $3 bomber. I may try it again, but hardly worth the price.

bottled as Boatswain HLV (Heavy Lift Vessel). Don't know why. Kind of a non-descript strong brown ale. Decent malt/hop balance, and if it stopped right there, it would be ok, but there is a pronounced offness to the aroma and flavor, slightly sour and vegetal, that just doesn't let it all come together.

This was a disappointment. Had it on tap at Minhas on Saturday. Nose is semi-fruity. Instant tartness or sour flavors from the beer. It must've been bad I don't know. Flavors are way off.
