ST. LOUIS (Feb. 6, 2006) – Imagine a malty, toasted aroma cloaked in a beautifully rich, deep amber-toned lager boasting the perfect arrangement of balance and flavor. Now imagine the frothy, delicate body of this beer dancing over the taste buds only to tantalize the palate with a truly refreshing finale. Meet Michelob ULTRA Amber, an American-style light lager with a surprisingly deep amber color now available nationwide. The newest entry in a long line of innovative beers from Anheuser-Busch, Michelob ULTRA Amber is the first extension of the Michelob ULTRA brand. “Anheuser-Busch has had great success with Michelob ULTRA and we wanted to further capitalize upon this success with the introduction of Michelob ULTRA Amber,” said Dan McHugh, vice president, Trademark Brands, Anheuser-Busch, Inc. “The distinctive taste of Michelob ULTRA Amber, carefully crafted by our brewmasters, is ideal for those who prefer a full-flavored light beer.” Brewed at three of Anheuser-Busch’s 12 breweries including Fort Collins, Colo.; Jacksonville, Fla.; and Cartersville, Ga., using the finest two-row and dark-roasted specialty malts and a blend of aromatic domestic and imported hops, Michelob ULTRA Amber is also low in calories and carbohydrates. It contains 3.7 grams of carbohydrates, 114 calories and 5 percent alcohol by volume (ABV) per 12-ounce serving and was test marketed in Charlotte, N.C.; Daytona Beach, Fla.; Peoria, Ill.; Philadelphia and Phoenix. “Crafting Michelob ULTRA Amber, like any of our light beers, was an exciting challenge for us as brewers,” said Guillermo Moscoso, brewmaster, Anheuser-Busch, Inc. “By using darker roasted malts to increase the flavor while maintaining a lower calorie content through the brewing process, we were able to brew a great-tasting, flavorful light lager that we know adult beer drinkers will truly enjoy.” Priced on par with the popular Michelob ULTRA, Michelob ULTRA Amber is available in 12-ounce slope-shouldered glass bottles and comes in six-, 12-, 18-, 20- and 24-packs and in 1/2 and 1/6 barrel draught kegs. It is sold in grocery stores, convenience stores, restaurants, bars and clubs throughout the country. The marketing of Michelob ULTRA Amber is supported by a full line of point-of-sale and merchandising materials in addition to outdoor, radio, print and television advertising including a spot during this year’s Super Bowl. In addition, Amber Smith, international model and actress, has been signed to be the face of promotional materials for Michelob ULTRA Amber and will be making appearances throughout the country on the brand’s behalf in the coming months. Smith has graced the covers of countless high fashion lifestyle magazines and has walked the runways of the world’s most famed fashion designers.

If you are stuck drinking a light beer, this isn't a bad option. Although similar to Michelob Ultra, this one seems to have a bit more malt flavor that makes it slightly more enjoyable.

A Light amber colored beer with a small fuzzy textured, off white head rising briefly above. Surprisingly a fairly thick soapy ringlet is shortly left behind. The nose is bolder than the tasting. In the nose there is sweet, corny adjunct malt and grassy hops. In the tasting, I’m drinking flavored water. Not much flavor. Not much body. Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing offensive about this beer. But nothing a beer geek would say “let me have another”.

Amber, resembling apple juice, color with plenty of carbonation and no head whatsoever. Mouthfeel was bit thin. Nice clean finish but still this is an average beer at best.

Although this beer takes a bad wrap, I kind of enjoy it. No, it's not the greatest beer but it's 5% ABV is above the average and the taste is clean and the finish is not bad either. I had this on draught while in Orlando, FLA at a Carabba's Restaurant and could have done many more. Never heavy on the stomach, never bloats and flushes out nicely. The appearance is dark and noticable with a respectful head. I enjoy it and I know I'm in the minority.

Poured a light amber with good carbonation. Like many light beers it was mild in aroma and flavor. I prefer regular Michelob but this was drinkable. would go well at a BBQ

A light amber beer. Sort of like the regular Michelob Ultra with a touch of caramel for sweetness. Still a little bitter though. Not the smoothest amber out there. Probably won't be getting this again but glad I had the opportunity to try. Would rather have a regular Michelob Ultra or and Amber Bock instead.

I didn;t have high expectations for this beer. Almost looked like Michelob amber, but that is where it stops. The bitterness hit me like a sack of bricks. It was ok in the end, just watch out for the bitterness.

the "malty, toasted aroma" the brewer describes is there, i suppose, just really hard to find. for what it is, it can be enjoyed, but not if you're expecting much. A touch darker and maltier than Ultra, but about on the same level...maybe a tad better.

This brew pours a light copper color topped by a tight white head that went down quickly leaving almost no lace. The aroma was thin malts and grassy hops. The mouthfeel was very light bodied with low carbonation. The flavor was your typical lager with a little caramel malt in the background.

This is just fizzle. Michelob should stick with the basics - Mich and Mich Light - if they're going to brew anything at all. An abomination of the Pale Ale. Too light, too fizzy, too tastelss.
