Workingman's Red is a beer dedicated to the workingmen and workingwomen who really sweat for a living. An exceptionally drinkable quality characterizes Workingman's Red, which has a deep mahogany color and a slight malty sweetness. This malty background and flavor is surprisingly smooth. It finishes with a toasty dryness and a bold, aromatic hop character that complements the sweetness nicely. The use of unmalted roasted barley reflects the Irish tradition of dodging British-imposed malt taxes, while adding depth and complexity to the ales character. Workingman's Red is flavorful enough to stand up to hearty foods like lamb stew and corned beef, but still quaffable enough to quench the mighty thirst of the workingman. Starts pouring March. Grains: Great Western Pale Ale Malt; Great Western 120L Crystal; Flaked Barley; Briess Victory Malt; Hugh Baird Roast Material Hops: Chinook; Golding, Tettnanger

The dude next to me at the bar at raleigh hills was gushing over this beer so I figured I probably needed to try it. Nothing to write home about. The only thing cool about it is the reference to the Grateful Dead album. Plain old boring red. slightly cloudy, full on malt nose. A little sweet for my liking.

Pretty nice looking amber ,darker than the usual, a nice slightly hazy brown with a large off white head. Aroma was subdued but mainlly malty. I found the taste to be pretty nice, caramel malting and some nice bitter hops at the end, nice aftertaste. Pretty much ok on the palte, little on the thin side due to it being served too cold IMO. Overall a not outstanding but drinkable ale, would be nice with food
