Holy Mother! This one's pretty thick! Taste's like molasses on first sip/drink. Followed by some coffee/caramel duo/team up. Very nice. had this one on tap, which pretty rare apparently. Not sure if bottled will live up to this pint. Also feels pretty thick going down. Lots going on taste wise, that is a definite! Good stuff!

This is the finest Canadian brewed scotch ale available regularly in Canada. It pours a dark mahogany colour, almost solid, with a creamy light brown cap. Molasses, vanilla, caramel, and smoked wood provide a nice aroma, and the flavour doesn’t let you down. A nice sweet scotch ale with the sweet sugar and molasses notes balanced by the smoked wood and hops.

The beer poured a blackish brown colour with a thin brown head. The aroma was molasses, caramel, roasted malt, and a weak hop sense. The mouthfeel was creamy, medium to full bodied with mild carbonation. The flavour was licorice, molasses, coffee, and dark fruits. -

My review is for the St-Ambroise Scotch Ale. Nice head upon pouring, though it disappears a little too quickly for my liking. Nice cola colour, and lacing. Alcohol taste is quite strong, and noticeable peat and Munich malt flavour, which isn't my favorite. Finish is a sour, cidery taste that lingers too long.

Comes in a nice Scotch tube (think of Bowmore). Pours a beautiful deep indian red with a good tanned fizzy-cream head. Retention is not very long and lacing is almost not happening. At least a ring forms around the brew, and stays there troughout the drinking experience. Full of tiny bubble carbonation actively coming from the bottom of the glass. The nose has caramel malt, nut, fruits (apples, pears) and alcohol scents. Semi-syrupy mouthfeel with a dry aftertaste. The taste represents well the aromas, as the fruits and alcohol are found. No burning though, very smooth. Pretty good beer, just lacking a bit of a punch. Slightly overpriced.

Saved this seemingly promising Scotch Ale for a truly rainy, damp, cold spring day in late April; A most appropriate atmosphere I feel. Very attractive presentation with long tubed bottle and classy graphics. Excellent pour, ruby red in colour with very fine assembled head. A good lot of tiny bubbles. Aroma lends molasses, malt, alcohol and (very sadly) dulled as it warmed. Mouthfeel is sticky, with a very syropy texture. Carbonation a little too high perhaps. Fairly decent malt profile, malt being the most obvious contributor to taste in this one. Scotch flavour is nowhere near as prevalent as it should be, and very easily remarked as this beers shortcoming. Some character reminiscent of butterscotch, no hints of vanilla as the bottle claims. Also, while decent, it seems lacking a better finish in the aftertaste. Needs more hops for that crisp bitterness in the finish. That might greatly improve the overall character. Not enough scotch (ultimately not enough depth) to make the pallet dance like a fine wee heavy should.

Poured an amber color with a small, off white head that left no lacing on the glass. Aroma of peat malt, caramel, nuts, and faint citrus. Taste of more caramel and peat malts, nuts, a light roastiness, and moderate carbonation.

bottle, 2005 edition: pour put a wonderful cola colored ale with ruby highlights in my leffe goblet. Nice 1 finger tight beige cap that goes to a ring quickly...not much lace on the glass. Aromas of caramelized malts light grassyness and a hint of smoke. Medium body, soapy mouth feel. Malts up front with some sweet toffee mingling with a prune cider and molasses...then a deep mustiness ensues and the hops break out in the middle giving the palate a figs and grass decernment...finishes wet and sweet with a kiss of licorice. A nice brew...age may improve it but it’s fairly smooth now

Bottle: Poured a clear dark brown color ale with a big head with limited retention. Aroma with hints of smoke and sweet malt. Taste is lighter then expected with some sweet malt and a light bitter finish. Body is defiantly too thin for the style and IMHO carbonation is too high for the style. Quite deceiving and not even close to my recollection of the original beer that was brewed years ago.
