A Bavarian weizenbock occasionally available by our brewery. A stronger wheat beer with roasted malts and an intense flavor. Liquid bread in the true sense of the word. Weizenbock was already brewed by the monasteries in the Middle Ages, where it was the source of energy and good mood in the desert or when fasting, hence the term liquid bread.

750 ml capped bottle, bought at Žly Časý, Praha. Poured in the original Matuška nonick pint glass an unfiltered and almost opaque pale amber coloured WB with a two fingers light beige and soapy foamy head that had a very long retention and tons of micro bubbles. Active carbonation. Good lacing. The aroma is wheat malts, fruity, bananas, apples, woody notes and a pronounced barnyard feeling. The flavour is wheat malts, candy sugar, fruity, bananas, spicy, orange peels, pepper, nutmeg and a vanilla touch. The mouthfeel is fulled, quite thick, smooth and light bitter. The texture is oily. This medium to full bodied HW has a dry malty and fruity finish. This Czech Weizenbock seems, by the tasting, quite harmless, but with the no-end aftertaste an unexpected, irrestible and deep warming effect is emerging and makes it really surprising. Waoouuh !

Shared 750 ml bottle at local tasting, thanks to gunnar. ABV is 6.3%. The bottle had been open a while, but I’ll rate the beer as if it had a normal carbonation (which reports confirm it had when opened). Amber colour. Unusual spicy aroma, notes of coriander and banana. Spicy flavour, some banana. A fairly decent beer. Will rerate if I can find a fresh bottle.
