3/3/04 Bottle claims Wilmington Brewing, NC but has same Dergy's logo and name. Looks like a Stewart's root beer; Big, brainy head, large, bubbly, lasting. Aromas of maple sugar, molassas, isopropyl alcohol, and wet oak planks. Flavors of burnt marshmallow, grapeskin, watermelon rind, and Sanka. A mix of pleasing and atrocious flavors for sure. Intensly astringent! Feels thick and foamy and fuzzy at the back of the throat. I was glad to be through with this beer.

Dark black color. Medium white foamy head. Aroma is chocolate and sweet. A medium bodied black and tan. This one is a combination of a porter and an ale. Malts are sweet, chocolate and coffee. Slightly spicy hops. Kind of watery and a tad harsh and cardboardy tasting. I always struggle with what to say with this ‘style’ of beer. This is not really and porter, not really an ale and is not really a cross between the two. Still the balance is ok and it drinkable. Not sure I like the style. I will still drink them, but I’m not sure I can describe them adequately. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

Not bad at all, with a name like dergy you cant really expect a whole lot, but i was quite impressed. This beer gets a solid B.
