Born of dark and cold and snow in the marrow of the northeast’s longest night, HOWL comes in on wailing winds with winter-weary eyes burning holes in sunless shadows. In its darkened depths out inner voids are warmed.

Wow poured black as night as advertised. Nice light tan head with superior lacing on glass. Smelled like molasses, malt and smoke. Truly a winter seasonal with malt up front, faint pepper and extremely smooth flavor. Very well done.

Pours an opaque color, not quite black as night, definitely some light coming through with notes of brown hue. Foamy tan head with a bit of head retention. The aroma has cereal grains, chocolatey roasted malts, smoky charcoal. The taste is smokey chocolate malts with notes of the cereal grains found in the smell. Slight oily hop bitterness, finsihes smokey and dry. The mouthfeel is medium to low carbonation with a medium creamy body.

A nice dark brown with ruby highlights shining through when held to the light. Appears clear. Poured a nice 3-fingered tan head that stuck around for a few minutes and had some decent lacing. Head was kind of creamy looking. Picking up a dark, smokey malt in the nose. Detecting some type of dark fruit. The nose is really confusing me. Not in a bad way, but I just can't pick out what's in there. Smells decent enough though. Nothing off putting. Did pick up some coffee after a while. Getting a burnt, smokey, charcoal type of flavor. Almost tastes like fried dove, the game bird. Crazy, but enjoyable because I like fried dove. Haha. A bit of a weak coffee flavor also. Mouthfeel seems medium/thin. Smooth, but a bit watery and does cover the palate relatively well. After the first sip I wasn't sure about this beer. However, the longer I pondered it, I started to enjoy it more and more. It's a bit different for sure, but that can be an ok thing. It goes down relatively easy and doesn't over fill you. Worth a try, just for the experience.

Bought the 2010 Winterland variety pack. This has potential...something about the balance and mouthfeel slightly lacking though. I like the chocolate malt flavor and decent hop finish, but the way it blends not quite working. A good beer nonetheless. For this style, I prefer Sammy's Black Lager. Wanted to try some new Magic Hats. So far, I am finding their beers good but not great.

Poured a dark brown with a medium frothy head that was slow to disappear. The aroma was a lightly toasted malts. The taste was smooth with a very light bitterness near the head was not great but not bad.

Weak. Pours deep brown with little to no head and about that much lacing. Odd aroma... tough to place exactly, but has a hint of roasted malt. Thin - incredibly thin - in the mouth. Oddly licorice flavor with a distinctly "Magic Hat-ness" about it. Not impressed.

A midnight black colored beer with a frothy textures light beige head rising high above. Some hang time, settling eventually into a low hanging film and thick ringlet. A dark roasted malt rises to the nose. Light to light mediumed, low carbonation and cramy body. The flavors are just like I prefer them. Dark roasted malt, bittering chocolate. Well done.

Super Bowl 2010. Pour was dark with very small head (more like a couple bubbles). A roasty aroma was present, but faint. There wasn’t a whole lot of flavor, but there were a lot of roasted notes, with hints of chocolate and lactic acid. Just meh...kind of boring.

Comes out of the tap a deep opaque chocolaty sable with a fine-bubbled tan head that leaves some decent lacing. Aroma is rich and mainly of quality coffee with hints of molasses and unsweet chocolate. Rich, smoky coffee flavor has hints of chocolate, wood and toffee. Lively, fizzy texture leaves a nice tingle and hints of good mocha.

pours a root beer brown .. decent sharwz foam .. . simple aromas, light tar mostly .. . smooth, very dumbed down, but light roast, quite pleasing actually .. . i liked it .. If Barbie is so popular, why do you have to buy her friends?
