Black with bloody ruby highlights. Good light khaki head. A bit of diacetyl in the aroma. Chocolate and bready. A bit like buttered biscuit toast and coffee.

Legend brews both lagers and ales. Beer can be purchased at the brewpub to go in 1 liter swing top bottles. My favorite of the beers I sampled at Legend was their porter. The bartender said to me, this beer was her personal favorite, "its like a loaf of bread". And her description would be correct, this beer was a delicious, sweet, malty, chocolatey, coffeeish porter, like liquid brown bread. Legend Porter pours to a deep brown/black, murky color with a nice, big tan head, and a soft carbonation. Legend's beers are unpasteurized, so they are very fresh tasting. The nose on this beer is wonderful. Aromas of sweet malt, chocolate, and roast flood the nose. The palate is a soft malt backbone of sweet malt, chocolate flavors, and a touch coffeeish as well. The body is hefty, not so big, but is slick on the tongue. This beer ends with more sweet malt flavors of chocolate malt, and a touch of roast. Hop presence is in this beer, but just to balance. This is a rich, delicious, chocolatey, malty brew, a big, sweet, brown porter. I was very impressed with this beer. I purchased a few 1 liter swing top bottles to go. This is a great beer to sip on a cool fall afternoon over looking the city of Richmond. I would match this beer with hot brown bread with butter, or maybe coffee cake. This is an excellent desert beer, and is one to be sipped and savored.
