Our hemp beer is a twist on the brown ales of northeast England. Chanvre Rouge is a translucent reddish brown ale. It is a malt accented with a firm, nutty dryness and a gentle citric finish.

    Bottle: Poured a light reddish color ale with a medium bubbly off-white head with average retention. Aroma of corn with something funky that is definitely not hemp is just plain gross. Taste is also identifiable by this weird combination between corn and some funky spice/smoke? Carbonation is way too high, much like drinking a soda straight from the can. Not a beer that I want to go back anytime soon.

    I bought a sixer of this stuff in Quebec City... to try it, yes, but also to get a free glass (when purchased with another sixer of this family). The first few I had were outdated, or at least turned bad. This one I am sampling, thank God, is actually still good. Pours a caramel-amber colour with a slight off-white foamy head. Dissipates fast and mild lacing is left behind. The nose is of caramel and a mix of sourness and acidity. Watery mouthfeel. Not much in the taste. Just very mild caramel and maybe nut. The "gentle citric finish" told in the description is very gentle. Not really my thing. Very, very boring. Le Chaudron makes much better beer than these hemp brews.

    bottle from Joannette metro; poured into a Chauldron flute we see a rusty brown ale....fair head...good lacing...moderate carbonation. Nose is interesting sweet malts with a hint of musty spice. caramel malts balanced well with some sharp hopping that compliments the hemp...a nice sweetish sharp spicey decernment with a light bittering finish from the hemp. Light, refreshing, one of the better hemps in Canada. Mouth feel on the thin side but this delivers enough of a unique taste that I can forgive it...a good patio or sidewalk cafe ale for light refreshment in the spring...good with fish.

    clear amber-brown colour, few foam, malt and dark fruits aroma with only a touch of hemp, sweet, medium-bodied at best with a tart and dry malty aftertaste
