A beer of the month club entry for June/July 2011. Here is something that is really pretty nice, A beer that when consumed feels like you had a beer. Not just some slightly grainy water with some fizz, but a complex brew that has a good dose of hops and other flavors that make you feel like you have finally had an "adult" beverage.

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 12oz bottle into a pint glass. There appears to be no freshness date on the bottle. Appearance: Its body has a dark brown color with deep crimson highlights. The head on top was about one and half fingers thick, light tan in color and made very nice lacing on the glass. Smell: Sweet caramel and brown sugary notes pop out in the nose along with some toasted malt and mild earthy/leafy hops. Taste/Mouth: It has a base of roasted and toasted bready malt flavors. There is plenty of sweetness up front with notes of brown sugar, sweet/buttery bread, diacetyl and dark caramel. The 7%abv adds only a slight touch of character and is mostly well hidden. The middle sees the addition of dried leafy and earth hop flavor along with some bitterness for balance. The finish has a nice blend of sweet malt, a hint of bitter dark chocolate and hops. It has a smooth, slightly slick texture with soft yet active carbonation in a solid medium to full body. Notes: I would like to thank my good friend Don for telling me about the Lake Placid Pub and Brewery and for recommending the Ubu Ale. I really enjoyed very interesting and complex ale.

This beer is pretty ok. Auburn is color with a white head that did nto last. Medium body but had a little too much alcohol feel on the tounge. Flavor is good, not too sweet, slighty bitter and a slight burnt aftertaste.

From a bottle. Pours a hazy brown w/ a slightly off-white head. Aroma is mellow and sweet. Flavor is slightly sweet with a somewhat bitter aftertaste. An ok beer, but nothing to get excited about.

Bottle. Poured a cloudy dark amber color with a thick beige head. Plenty of lacing. Aroma is very nutty with a hint of fruit. Mouthfeel is a little too fizzy for what I like my strong ales to be. Flavor is ok. Mainly roasted malts, and more bitter than I'd expected. This was decent, but nothing I'd go out of my way to get.

This dark ale has a malty character with very little hops apparent. Little to no head but somehwat sweet and vinuous. Hints of chocolate and wildberries or possibly cherry flavors. Very unique in taste and flavor.

Great tasting beer, a real flavor experience. This isn't one that i'd want to keep stocked in the minifridge, but can't do much better for a six pack if you have the money. 7% alcohol helps.

Brewtopia’04. Reddish-brown, clear; fluffy head. Earthy aromas, bready. Not much to body for a strong ale. Alcohol not very prominent. Tasty but too mild, I thought, and falling short of the mark.

Bottle: Poured a medium black color ale with a nice foamy off-white head with standard retention. Aroma of roasted malt is kind of weak and I could not find anything else really. Taste is also a bit thin with some roasted malt and not much else going on. As mentioned, body is thin and carbonation is low I’ve had much better beer form that style to truly care about that one.
