In der Lahnsteiner Brauerei wird das ganze Jahr über Bockbier, auch Starkbier genannt, gebraut. Der Schneebock ist als dunkle Variante unseres Bockbieres ganzjährig erhältlich. Ursprunglich wurden Bockbiere gebraut, indem man ein Vollbier mit " normalen " Alkohogehalt im Lagertank abgekühlt, bis Wasser gefriert. Es bildete sich ein Eisschicht am Rand des Lagertanks. Da Alkohol einen niedrigen Gefrierpunkt als Wasser hat, friert er nicht zusammen mit dem Wasser aus, und der Alkoholgehalt des Bieres steigt an. Durch diese Herstellungweise wurde das fertige Bier als " Eisbock " bezeichnet. In der Lahnsteiner Brauerei wird das Bockbier von Anfang an stärker eingebraut und später nicht mehr ausgefroren. Die Errinnerung an den " Eisbock " und der Auschank im Winter führte zum heutigen Namen " Schneebock ".

Bottled@One Pint Pub, Helsinki. Deep amber colour, not that much head. Aroma is caramel, some skunkyness, mild earth and yeast. Flavour is quite much the same. Did have some metallic notes when cold, but those disappeared when it warmed up a bit.

Clear dark ruby with small light brown foam head lacing to glass. Weak aroma, caramel mostly. Taste is caramel dominated with liitle barley, very little bitterness. Aftertaste is short. (Velp 201302)

Bottle. Poured a clear deep brown colored beer with a one finger slight beige foamy head that had a good retention. Active carbonation. Good lacing. The aroma is roasted malts, dark ripe fruits, plums, prunes, raisins, dried fruits, nuts. The flavour is sweet malts, dark ripe fruits, raisins, plums, prunes, spicy, licorice, notes of caramel and toffee. The mouthfeel is slight crispy and round. This full bodied beer has a long dark fruits finish. A very nice and tasting beer.
