another hoppy brew from Lagunitas. Not one of their best, but pretty tasty nontheless. lots of citrusy hops in the nose and flavor, and enough malt to balance it. good, just not crazy about it.

Aug 2009 - Had this a while back and forgot to rate. I remember reading the "this is not a double IPA" thing on the label and wishing that it was. Really, I was rather bored by this beer. Pale golden color with just mild sweet flavor with some earthiness and a smattering of pine hops. I see no reason for this to be sold in bombers, as it’s just a plain old session beer which could be $8/six pack. Underwhelmed.

The bottle clearly says "This is NOT a double IPA." At any rate, this is really delicious. Sticky, thick, resin hops, tastes like orange zest, grapefruit and pine sap. A little bit of sweetness in the finish, just enough to stop it from becoming sour. Cloudy, dark amber, with a thin layer of head. Surely a repeater, for as long as I can find it it.

If you are into IPAs this ones for you. Pours tan with a nice small amber head. Very hoppy and a sweet grapefruit nose. The taste is heavenly Hopped with a slight bitter sweetness at the end. The bottles that I had just say IPA on them. If this review is in the wrong place forgive me.

This arrives from the tap with a half-finger thick, pale white colored head. The beer is almost clear and is a copper-gold color. The aroma has a nice fruity hop note to it that reminds me of tangerine, lychee and apricot all of which contribute to a smooth hop fruit character. No malt character is really noticeable. There is a touch of sweetness to the flavor, but it has a drying effect overall. There is just enough malt sweetness here to carry the dominant hop notes. A biting clean bitterness is noticeable throughout and it lingers pretty well on the tongue. Also in the lingering finish is a menthol and pine flavored hop note. The fruity hop notes contribute notes of tangerine, grapefruit peel oil and lots of lychee. This has a nice light body to it, even lighter than one would expect in a beer of this strength; this is definitely quite quaffable. Some hot alcohol is sometimes noticeable in the finish and food seems to accentuate this to the point of being peppery. This is actually almost a bit too thin at times, but it is thoroughly serviceable and even pretty enjoyable over all.

Woowee! Picked this baby up yesterday and it's tickling my palate as i type. Pours a golden orange colour clear as day. Plenty of carbonation but the head is modest. 1 thumb thick. Nice lacing though. Aroma is piney, floral and all those good things you love about a west coast pale ale. It's just an APA and i can see that. it doesn't have that firm hop bite associated with an iPA. Either way, super dank and heady enough for this hophead!

Sampled on 6/1/2009. This American Pale Ale pours a medium orange gold color from a 22oz bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head, with nice retention. The aroma is piney hops, fruity and citrusy. A medium bodied APA. The malts are fruity and sweet. The hops are citrusy and piney. Lively carbonation. A big hoppy APA. Its kind of crisp and dry as well. Has that typical Lagunitas hop signature, which works very well in this beer. A touch of alcohol at the finish. I like the bone dry finish, compliments the hops well. Seems a little lighter than most Lagunitas beers. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean, crisp and dry. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

I enjoyed this beer a lot, I'd say my favorite Lagunitas so far (only tried about 4 kinds though). It pours a clear golden-slight amber color. Smells fruity and hoppy, I thought like grapefruit. When I sipped it reminded me of a hoppy juicy-fruit bubblegum flavor, with a citrus-grapefruit theme going on. I also noticed that it may be dry hopped. Bitter aftertaste cause of the hops, but a very well balanced blend, as the hops don't overwhelm the sweetness. It even says on the label "This is Not an IPA, just a good American Pale Ale" I would have to agree. Updated 7/20/09- Tried this again for the 2nd time couple days ago. Sampled the Hop Stoopid the night after and liked that a lot too, as well as a few other Lagunitas since this original post. Might be changing my mind on my "favorite" Lagunitas comment, as I adjusted my rating down slightly, but still a VERY good release.

Dry hopped I'm certain because there is a heavy, fresh, American hop aroma that grabs your attention. Floral with sticky pine and citrus. Pours a transparent light copper color with a small white head and good lacing. Bitter mouth feel, mild to lighter in body and rather dry. Flavor is nice and straight-forward with some biscuit malt flavor and a hearty dose of lemon, grapefruit and fresh cut flowers. I'd call this an American Pale Ale and a decent one at that.
