Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8
Poured up on tap at the brewpub with murky semi opaque deep copper amber body with lasting tan head and some nice lacing. The mild aroma offers up un-nuanced wood notes, a sense of malts and maybe some earthy hops if I struggle with it for a while. This seems the wood aging has robbed the beer of most of its aroma. The taste starts spicy with oak and hops and then quickly ramps up to firm oak spiciness and little else for a while. Beyond midway the other flavors open up with a mix of spicy hops, pine hops, some grapefruit, sugar coated tangelo bits and a thin layer of mango juice mixing with pineapple juice. Into the finish much of the hop flavor fades away leaving a pleasing resiny hop bitterness as well as a bigger sense of pine hops.
