Draught in Prague, called Krusovice Vycepni Tmavé on the menu, but must be the same beer. Black (= very dark brown) colour, large head. Lovely malty aroma with strong elements of leather and cigarbox. Pleasant flavour of roasted malts, some caramel but not too sweet, very well balanced with the hops. For the style freaks: This is a Schwarzbier IMO, not a dunkel - but who cares, as long as the beer tastes good? I’d think the ABV was stronger than it actually is - another evidence that flavour and strength are not necessarily the same thing. Great with food or on its own. A truly enjoyable beer. Rerate bottle: I just realised I had written separate notes of the BOTTLED beer named Krusovice Cerne - I could SWEAR it was a different beer from the draught Vycepni Tmave. Notes bottle: Deep reddish brown colour. Large tan head, moderate carbonation. Moderate malty aroma. Typical dunkel flavour with low bitterness. Relatively light bodied, refreshing. Overall 13/20.

A big thanks to my brother-in-law for this beer. A great dunkel. Dark brown un color and malty with a big hop presence. Mouthfeel is a bit thin but it was a great beer - would have this again!

Dark brown, almost black, with brown huge foam head, lacing to glass. Aroma is caramel with some walnut. Taste is dominated by sweet caramel, some light hoppy bitterness. Short lasting aftertaste, caramel dominated, but again walnut. (Velp 201210)

Nice dark pour not much of a head, the appearance prepares you for a wallop, but the slight smoke aroma and smooth flavor really surprises you. Nice Smooth dark beer great with a burger.

It pours a thick dark-mahogany brown with thin light-tan head and some lace. An aroma of rich chocolate malts, light hops, orange, raisins, and a mild spice blend. The mouthfeel is smooth, although too thin. Flavors of chocolate malts, light hops, citrus, raisin, and spiciness. Very palatable and tasty.

Bottle. Poured a deep brown with reddish tones colored beer with a three fingers beige creamy foamy head that had a good retention. Vigourous carbonation. Good lacing. The aroma is roasted malts and coffee. The flavour is roasted malts, herbal hops, coffeish, hints of licorice. The mouthfeel is crispy, dusty, watery and a little thin. This light bodied beer has a lingering mild bitter finish. An easy drinkable beer.

Born on Date June 2007; Sampled August 2008
Pours into my 25cl tulip glass with a frothy, initially almost three-finger thick, tan colored head. The beer is dark, almost black color that has some caramel tinges to it. When held up to the light the body shows a brilliantly clear, deep red color. The aroma smells of toffee, ample toasted malt, light roast notes, a whole grain cracker note and a touch of sweet grain around the edges that almost has a cherry like fruitiness to it at times.

The carbonation adds a bit of fizziness to the texture and the body is light enough, but does have a medium heft to it. Caramelized notes provide just a touch of sweetness, but not nearly as much as I was expecting after reading that this had artificial sweetener added to it. Toasted whole grain flavors, a touch of cocoa powder, a hint of burnt smokiness, some blackened malt notes and a touch of roast coffee like flavors. The finish has some caramel, almost toffee notes that linger a bit on the tongue as well as a hint of hop bitterness that is quite smooth.

The overall impression of this beer is quite smooth and easy drinking; the dark grain used does not add any of the harsh, sharp or bitter notes that can often be found in darker beers. In this case a little more dark grain presence might provide a bit more complexity & balance, but this is certainly a classic example of a Schwarzbier.

Aroma is strong, malty, and mouth-watering. It pours a dark reddish-brown, almost the color of cola, with a thick, tan head that does not stay for long. Flavor is malty with a hint of burnt coffee and a little hop bitterness. This beer is velvety smooth and pleasant to drink, best by itself.

Pours with a dark brown body topped by a thin head with some lacing. It slightly sweet and malty with a very slight roasty bitterness. Not much flavor to it at all. Light to medium bodied, watery and smooth.

Odd Schwarzbier, I'm still deciding if I enjoyed this overall or not. Thick dark brown pour with a foamy off-white head and a thick coating of lacing. Aroma is uneventful and very faint at first but warms up to an awkward sweetness, nothing else to note. Rich mouthfeel that fades fast, it's decent. Flavor is a hodge podge of interesting tastes. Lightly smoked meats coupled with mild sugar, white rice, and a cardboard taste. Bottled less than a year ago, I can't imagine this is too old to be spoiled but being an import anything is possible. Eh, initially it perked my interest but soon became simply blah.

Very nice Czech dark lager. Deep brown-rubby colour, large creamy foam with some lacing. Malty-sweetish aroma with some spices rising up he nose and having some flowery patches. Watery and freshly malty in a mouth, has slight spicy and oily feeling. Sweetish malty brew, some barley taste can be felt, nicely spiced, has moderate caramel and bread patches, a little yeasty at the end. Leaves smooth, easyly malty aftertaste with some caramel notion. Finely fresh and pleasantly drinkable lager.
