Purchased at the Liquor Control Board of Ontario Store. The beer pours a solid dark brown colour with red edges, and a light tan coloured cap. The aroma is roasted malt, dark fruits, weak caramel, and yeast. The flavour mirrors the aroma with the dark fruit and roasted malt evident up front and a bitter yeasty finish. Quite enjoyable.

Reddish brown pour with a sad appearance. Sweet, fruity and metalic aroma. Thick and syrupy mouthfeel. Flavor is rich, sweet and sherry like. Caramel, toffee, plums and yeast. A little too sweet for me but still not bad

Pours a very near black red color with no head. The aroma of malt and sweet fruit smell like a plum. The mouthfeel is good and thick with a linger taste. The flavor is of sweet malt and fruit. Vey smooth and will buy this one again.

For a while I had not to much desire for these dark beers, but this one is OK. Dark color, colored foam head. Not too sweet, some hop taste. Lasting taste in mouth.

Aroma is malty with caramel and bread hints and a noticeable alcohol nip. It pours a dark, slightly hazy mahogany with a thick, fairly persistent pale tan head. Flavor is malty and surprisingly sweet, having tones of honey, caramel and toffee in addition to the malt. Alcohol bite is more subtle than in the aroma. Texture is fairly smooth and fizzy, leaving behind a soft but persistent tingle. Finish is sweet but not cloying, and has a nice alcohol nip to it.

WOW! I got this beer not expecting much, but oh my, the flavour is immense. One of the finest beers I have ever tasted. Masks its 11% with remarkable ease and is like a cross between a fine strong stout and and abbey dubbel. Tastes of treacle, toffee and chocolate, but the immense flavours are not heavy going as they are in some beers of its ilk. Although this beer doesn't have the reputation of a Westy or St Bernardus 12, in my opinion, it's just as fine!

Vintage 070712. Pours hazy brown with little head and light spots of lacing. Smells a bit sour with dates and toffee. Tastes very sweet at first, but as I acclimate my pallette I get dates and dried fruit. Still a very sweet Flemish brown, with a subtle sour finish. Pretty good, but still very sweet. I could see this improving with age, so I'll hold onto my 12 oz (currently sampling from a friend's bottle).

750ml bottle, bottled on 070924 (9/24/07?). Pours a murky brown with a small head that quickly goes to a tiny collar.

The aroma is subdued. It has some sweet caramel and toffee malts, some oak, a little dark fruit, and a bit of oxidization and alcohol.

The flavor is very sweet sugary malts and molasses, a little cola and fruit with a big sugary finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and syrupy.

Overall, this is way overly sweet. It's a bit of a treacly mess. As it warms and I get accustomed to the sweetness a little nutty malt and banana come out. So there's some complexity, but the sweetness overwhelms everything and makes it rather unpleasant.

Bottles 070328, which I assume means 3-28-2007. Label reads: Donker. I don't know where this beer has been aging, but has survived very well. Opaque, choclate syrup brown, with a light, off-white/barely tan head. Flavors abound on this one: brown sugar, cherries, chocolate, sherry, caramel, and there is some alcohol warmth under there. there is a little too much alcohol here, but it is really sweet, which I suppose is an attempt to hide all that heat. I could not drink several of these, as it is entirely too sweet. Nice to sip, great flavor profile, but would be a rare indulgence.

Pours a rich murky brown, but not unappealingly so. Thick, rich head with excellent lacing. It's just a little too sweet for my personal taste. I could probably consume 6-8 ounces or so, but downing the 22 oz. was tough.
