Wow. If you are gonna make an IPA, you have to bring the hops. An IPA without hops is just blasphemy. If this thing had hops, it was buried under and oxidized, malt astringent mess. Nothing could survive that. I'm not even really going to give it a break down review. Instead I'll just say stay away. Don't waste your time. There are hundreds of better IPA's out there.

Why do I keep trying Malt Shovel / James Squire brews..? Good question! Prior to this beer, I've had a rather boring and over-carbonated Porter, a dull-as-dullsville Amber, and a rather typical Pilsener. Now here comes an "I.P.A." (sarcastic quotation marks intentional).

Each and every beer from this brewery seems to emphasize it's use of Munich Malt -- not that it it's such a neccesary part of a typical IPA, of course. But whether it's this unussual malt bill, peculiar hopping, odd brewing technique, or a combination of all of the above -- the resulting IPA straight-up sucks.

Way too soft mouthfeel, with no malt or hops to even try to give this beer any sort of character. This mushy mouthfeel immediately translates to this beer rather undrinkable, and just plain unappealing.

Damn-near repulsive swill, that I won't touch again with a pole of any length...

Orange Amber color, medium head. Aroma is malty with a slight floral spiciness. Malty and not very hoppy for an IPA. The hops and bitterness are there they just aren’t over the top. Hops are spicy and floral more than bitter. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter. Nice, not very hoppy IPA.

the best of the squires stuff by far. good hoppy bitter aroma, very burton style. pours a rusty london pride style red. bubbly and hoppy in the mouth but not overwhelming, quite solid. full robust gutsy flavour with lingering bittnerness and slightly juice. excellent.

Golden color, small off white head. Buttery grassy hop aroma. Mild hops and a slightly tart taste, this was not too bad.
