Old sour beer is blended with sweet young beer before bottling to create a beer with a sour nose, sweet taste, and a slight sour aftertaste. Ichtegem’s goes great with shrimp or can also be used to marinate various kinds of meat in.

Poured a brownish color with zero head or lacing. Aroma was of tart cherries woody/oak, apples. Flavor was of cherries, oak and vinous, sweet malts. Mouthfeel was very acidic.

Bottled (my 700th Belgian rating). Deep reddish brown colour with brown foamy head. Aroma is fruits, earth and some acidic notes. Flavour is really sour malts, fruity hops and licorace. Quite pleasant and wellbalanced brew. Could be a bit more sour.

Bottle, pours a brown color with some reddish hues, virtually no head at all, and certainly no lacing, not looking all that pretty in the highly revered Duchesse glass of mine. The aroma was vinous, tart cherries and apples, some oak especially at warmer temperatures. Flavor is tart cherries, oak, vinous notes, acidic apples, and some sweet brown malts, brown sugar probably most prominent with caramel underneath (not much vinegar in there). The mouthfeel is acidic, yet it doesn't finish all that sour, perhaps why others haven't touted this beer very highly. Well, I love Flemish sours, and I can appreciate the "sweeter" more "balanced" takes, so na-na-boo-boo to you all, as if I need my mouth to feel like acid and lemon juice were squirted in it, followed by gag reflex activation, and stomach twisting after each sip. An enjoyable, yet far from complex or deep, Flemish Sour, imo.

Appearance is brown with almost no head. Aroma is sour apples. Flavor is sour fruit mainly apples. It tastes fairly close to a cider. Palate was a little thin and tart. This is not very complex but I enjoyed it.
