Originally developed for British sailors stationed in India, IPAs were aggressively hopped to help prevent spoilage on long ocean voyages. Now that spoilage isn’t as big a problem, we’ve eased up on the hoppiness just a hair to let the caramel malts shine through. It’s a big beer with big flavor that really lets you appreciate hops in all their glory.

Grabbed single at Publix about a year ago. Forgot to review at the time. This beer was new to FL, and they were pushing it through billboard advertisements and sale promotions at the grocery stores. It seemed like borderline macro-swill. Balance was off...wrong hops, etc. Quality just wasn't there. Haven't tried another Henry Weinhard since.

Enjoyed at Monirae's Casual Dining & Entertainment in Pennellville, NY when my band played there. Poured a golden-amber colour with some creamy lacing and a nice coat that topped the brew. Mild caramel and light hop aromas. Decent bitterness with the caramel malts balancing things. Grass notes from the hop. Decent easy-drinking IPA with nice caramel malts. Was nice to have something different in a bar with all of these other macros from A-B and Labatt.

IPA light...maybe...at best??? Faint nose is more like a pils then an IPA. Pours medium gold body with shot-lived white head that disappears rapidly leaving no lace to speak of. Mout is watery and the carbonation is fizzy without being nice. Flavor is of processed white sugar with a touch of skunk in mid taste and some chemical ending. Sweet, hoppless, and tasting of additives, this has nothing to do with an IPA and since the brewer's description is so antithetical to the actual product I will grade this even more harshly. Crap beer. Hey, Full Sail doesn't even list any of their "Henry Weinhard's " brews on their website, can't say as I blame them!

Faintly floral, but more grassy followed by a whole lotta emptiness. Vibrant copper body, 1/4" bubbly head and stringy lacing. Light, fizzy, and bland. This is extremely forgettable.

British malty backbone. Clear amber orange in color, feels more like a pale than an iPa. The hops are nice, just too mellow and not enough of them in there to come out on top o the malt.

Comes out of the tap a hazy golden amber with a pale golden-buff head - didn't get much of a head, but that apparently is an artifact of the pour, and it leaves generous lacing. Aroma is hoppy and fruity, mainly apple with a little banana, not spectacular or strong but still inviting. Strongly hoppy flavor is somewhat bitter with woody and fruity notes. Texture has plenty of fizz and sass though just average body. Not the best IPA I have ever had, but certainly worth at least a try.

pours clear medium amber with medium sized crackly white head with decent retention, and not much lacing. The aroma is foft cedar and brown sugar. Swirling brings out a sharper astringent muskiness and the whole thing takes in a more character as it warms. Somewhat subdued and sweet, but pleasant enough. The taste is of toasted oyster cracker, sugar, musky/skunky hops, grassy, vaguely buttery. Finishes with a persistent burnt wet grass flavor. The mouthfeel has moderate carbonation, fairly crisp with dry finish, decent drinkability, actually a bit boozy as it warms.

12oz bottle- single from K Roger's House .. . pours a medium dark honey gold .. light foam, light lacing .. . slight hops, but as with the other HW's- non offensive .. but this is more of a light english pale .. . . beating people in the crowd, not a bad idea..
