Maerzen comes from the German word “March”. The German Monks used to call it ”Das Fluessige Brot” which means “Liquid Bread”. Maerzen is a unique, fresh, and partially filtered dark brown Bavarian lager that has a malty “bread taste” flavor. It is well balanced with a fresh hop finish. (March & April)

I feel like I'm the wrong person to write the first review of this beer; I haven't liked any Oktoberfest this season, so far, and I also think that my six-pack was not the best the brewery had to offer. Anyway.... After pouring, the first thing I noticed was how quickly the head disappeared. The body is a hazy dark amber. There was some very light lacing. The aroma is, well, bad. It smells a lot like a souring dairy product, with a bit spice mixed in to avoid being completely un-redeemable. Mouthfeel isn't horrible, but it seems a bit over-carbonated for how light it tastes. All I can really taste is stale, watered-down malts. The aroma reminds me of a series of beers that I sampled recently that I got for free because they were improperly stored for too long; those beers were really bad, and I am not going to fault the brewery for how they were stored. As such, I'm inclined to believe that my six-pack was a casualty of poor distribution. Even so, their Kölsch was distributed to my local store at the same time, and it isn't really all that bad, so I'm not sure. Hopefully, others will have a better sampling than me.
