Picked up as a single at Woodman's Market, Oak Creek. Dark brown pour with reddish tones, moderate head with ample lacing. Faint malty aroma with a hint of hops. Full mouthfeel, with fruity flavors and notes of molasses and toffee. A light hoppy finish. A nice brown ale, although to my palette almost akin to a bock. Worth a try.

Pours a dark cola brown with a finger width of foamy beige head that hangs until the end. The aroma has caramel, vanilla, hint of plum, slight hazelnut. The taste has a nuttiness and sweet caramel are the boldest flavours coming through, supported by the vanilla undertones. Nice bittersweet flavours. The mouthfeel is a medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Nice smoothness and refreshing qualities.

This poured a dark brown color. The aroma contained some chocolate, caramel, nutmeg. The flavor was malty with a strong nutty flavor followed by plenty of toffee and chocolate. The finish was sweet. Overall this was a well done brown ale.

It poured a decent dark brown/ruby color that appeared clear. The head was off white and was of rather good size. The head was a bit soapy and didn't have the longest retention I had ever seen, but the lacing was ok. The aroma was a rather nice and sweet smelling caramel and toffee. A tad bit toasty. Smells rather rich with small chocolate notes creeeping in. The malt became more and more robust as it warmed. The taste was caramel with bits of chocolate and toffee. Again, a bit of toastiness. Some bitterness is noticeable also. Rather rich. The taste seemed to be balanced a bit better than the aroma. Medium mouthfeel. Rather creamy. Smooth and dry. Does a pretty good job of leaving flavor on the palate. The mouthfeel was even a tad chewy. I thought this brew was pretty good really. Pretty solid in all aspects. Rather drinkable with some complexity. Would be nice on a cool night. If someone had this available, i would have no trouble drinking it again.

    12oz bottle -

In a nod to Hanukkah, I figured I’d buy a few bottles of Shmaltz Brewing beers and enjoy them during their holiday. This was actually a pretty nice beer. Nothing spectacularly palate-bending, but nice. Molasses is what grabbed my attention first. Nutty, with a wet grainy/husky kinda smell. Flavor has nice balance with notes of dry bakers chocolate, toasted bread, light hop/bitterness with a kind of root-beery finish. Not sure wher that came from, but it’s what I got. Good beer.

A black richness with tinge of red in the coloring. Big frothy textured, off white head rises above. Some hang time. Nice lacing of film on the sides of the glass and thick soapy ringlet atop the body. The aroma is light, roasty malt and coffee. I get semi-sweet chocolate and roasted malt in the tasting. Pretty good, so far. Now to the body. A little light. Not as much here as expectations in presentation would give.

Man, a brown ale that has body and is really tasty... either my taste has changed (no, still don't like New Castle) or there's a good one... tried this one on a tip from a fellow beer taster and was not disappointed. Pours dark, deep brown with a slight head, but phenomenal lacing. Better than slightly thin on the pallette and flavor that is sweet, nutty and roasted - all very nice indeed.

For the style, this is an excellent beer. Pours a dark brown with some ruby highlights. All around pretty mild in aroma and taste but still very crisp and clean. Plenty of malty sweetness and also enough hops to finish just slightly bitter.

there's a little more too this beer than most browns...more resembling a porter? Pretty good, but there are a few better browns and several better porters. worth a try for a slightly heavier, hoppier brown.

Initially, cascades (not as well as Guiness) on the pour. Pours a very dark brown/chocolate color with inch-thick dimpled head and thick lace. Aroma of chocolate malts, limes, tart berries or grapes, light hops, light molasses, and mild spices. The mouthfeel is smooth, rich, and full-bodied. Flavors of caramel malts, grapes, hops, spices, and bitterness. Very good.
