Pours oily black with little, quickly disipating head. The aroma is good, nice strong raosty malt. The flavor is only OK, though. Still has the roasty malt, slight coffee (but surprisingly little chocolate given the name) but is a bit watery. HC Berger doesn''t seem to make bad beer, just uninspired beer.

Shame this brewery went under -- I grew up with this being my Stout of choice. Very dark, thick beer. Anything this full is fun to drink. Dark head lasts forever. Unsweetened chocolate flavor, some bitterness, but great finish.

This brewery has been out of business for over a year so how I managed to stumble across this is beyond me. But low and behold there was a lonely 6 pack sitting on the shelf. The beer poured like motor oil. Dark black appearance with a small tan head. Aroma is roasted malts and chocolate. Its slighty bitter with a heavy chocolate taste. Some sourness is present in the aftertaste. Not a bad stout at all.
