Since I went to New England few weeks ago and sampled a couple more Harpoons, I am becoming a fan of them. First sample of their Hef was a little off, but things have been getting better. This is a solid DIPA. On the orange side in appearance....clear....smooth mouthfeel. The aroma and flavors are almost both 9's, but not quite...otherwise this would be more in the 4.3-4.4 range. Good balance...but on the hoppier side. There are better DIPAs out there, but I like how this one represents the East Coast. I am eager to try even more Harpoons now.

Excellent beer - very balanced. Darker than many DIPAs when poured with a thin head, but fantastic lacing. Crisp amd medium-bodied with a clean finish. Hops abound, but not too much so - again, very balanced. Nice one - good substitute for a Hercules DIPA.

This beer pours darker than most IPA's it has a strong hoppy and pine aroma, The head was nothing special dissipating rather quickly, The flavor starts off very nice with a load of hops but a nice sweetness the only problem is the beer ends with a sort of astringent taste.

Bottle. Best by 10/15/09. Pours a reddish-orange color with a thick initial off-white head. Aroma is hoppy, pine, grapefruit and toffeeish malt. Flavor tilts more towards citrus at first with a dash of honey and the piney hops following with malt always supporting. Not an aggressive in your face bitterness but there is a nice long-lasting bitter edge to this that gradually gets more intense towards the finish. Very clean beer. A pleasant surprise. I thought this might be pretty good but it was better than that.

I have had this in a bottle, and it is better on-tap. It pours a luscious golden amber with a thick off-white head. Aroma is strong and very hoppy, a little evergreenish, like a very good IPA. Flavor is strongly hoppy, fairly bitter but not nastily so, with an evergreen overtone. Texture is lively and fizzy. Definitely worth having on-tap!

Review #700, Leviathan IIPA is a huge beer for sure nice fruity, and pine aromas, a deep dark body with a thin head. First a big hop bite of pine, then the sweet caramel malt takes over and tames the 122 IBU's, it finishes with a smooth bitternes. This one is a little on the sweet side, but it is still a pretty nice brew with an interesting mix of hops.
