100 Barrel Series. Session 21. Our authentic German hefeweizen yeast provides the banana and clove aroma for which this malty, warming wheat beer is known.

This was described as a genuine 'weizenbock'. Since I think that these should be hazy, this one doesn't quite fit the bill. This beer is a pretty clear gold. The aroma is wheat malt, some cloves, but no banana. The flavour is very grainy, sith a slight sweetness.

I’m a little disappointed by this one. It pours perfectly clear, and filtered weizenbocks seems a little sacrilegious somehow. There’s a touch of cherry and dried fruit in this. A very faint tartness.

(Green's Trip: 08) I picked this fine brew up because it is the first 100 Barrel Series I have seen from Harpoon available in Georgia. Aroma on this one full of banana and some cloves, cherry, and sherry, as well as some sweetness and smells like sun tan lotion but not in a bad way as well as some ripened fruit and maltiness. Appearance is a deep reddish-burgundy in color, and very clear which is surprising, when held to the light with a medium-sized head on top that dissipates very quickly, with not much retention, to a thin, stringy lacing that is off-white in color. Mouthfeel is smooth and tasty with solid banana taffy complexity as well as balance with a palate that is clean, crisp, and sharp and coats well. Flavor is of banana and cloves with some taffy and bubblegum with an aftertaste that is creamy and a finish that malty and chewy and very flavorable and very, very tasty. Overall, this brew seems more like a dunkelweizen to me but the alcohol content can be argued it makes it a weizenbock but in the end; this is a good brew from their 100 Barrel Series and worth trying and is very refreshing and makes me long for the hot, Summer months at the beach...
