To admit that the brewers at Half Pints are hopheads is an understatement. This India Pale Ale is unabashedly hoppy, with a grapefruit-like aroma due to a large addition of hops directly to the final tank (a process called "dry hopping"). A firm, toasted malt presence forms the background for all these hops lending balance so it’s not just a one note symphony.

Malty, Pinecone bitterness. Large body, caramel, fairly large for a 6% IPA, bit heavy for my to love it, but no complaints here. Great someone in Winnipeg is making such good beer.

Pours a clear amber with very little head. Oddly (based on the brewer's description and other reviewers), I detect next to no hops in the aroma--more malty with faint earthy notes. Taste is similarly lacking in hops (flavor and bitterness). Disappointing but maybe I have an older bottle so I will reconsider if I run across this one again.

bottle: Pours a clouded shimmering orange-amber ale in the glass with a rich puffy 2 finger cap that lasts and laces. Aroma: Rich leafy citus-herbal woodsy tones over some substantial malt notes....very lush. Flavor profile: starts with a big chew of caramel malt up front but then the hops rush in..citrus, piney, leafy hops ride just above a stable bready malt spine...finish is dry and lightly bitter. A good boilerplate APA with a Pac-NW flair wedded to a Brit IPA simplicity...a rich sessioner.

Not bad looking brew hazy gold with a good quarter inch crown floating on top some spotty lacing all and all not too bad. Aroma is a straight up American IPA with the typical grapefruit hops with a nice malty presence some floral notes make their way in as well. The aroma is a little too mild for my liking I would have preferred if it was a touch more aggressive. Taste is slightly watery but still has tones of flavor hops dominate as they should with their citrus flavors the caramel tasting malts are a touch held back in the flavor but this is still very tasty I’m also getting a noticeable amount of a perfumey flavor most likely from hops. Not the greatest IPA in the word but still very drinkable and compared to most other Canadian examples this is pretty good, I would easily buy the one again given the chance.

i gotta say, this is very good stuff! i did not expect this quality of brew. Straight up American IPA. Excellent hazy apricot colour with a fair sized smooth white crown, decent retention and ample ropy lacing. the floral aroma is filled with amarillo and cascade hops (I love amarillo hops) that leave the nose happy. Sweet and fruity, maybe the smallest ammount of pine, and soft malts - a small quantity. Taste is as good as the aroma. Intense hops right off the bat, pine, and citrus, some fruit but the intensity of the hops wipes most everything else out. This sucker is ALL hops. Mouthfeel is nice smooth with a good biting ammount of carbonation. Almost medium bodied. The malts try to come out at the end but get smashed by the crazy bitterness that goes on and on. Excellent brew.

Bottle courtesy of Piscator34: Poured a light orangey color ale with a medium foamy head with average retention. Aroma of citrus hops is well balance with some caramel malt. Taste is a mix between some medium citrusy hops with some semi-sweet caramel malt. A bigger hops presence would have been more enjoyable IMHO and body was a bit too watery for my own taste. Still very good effort nonetheless.

This brewery just opened up this summer and this was my first beer from them. I was quite impressed with it and will be looking forward to trying other beers.
