A unique ale that perpetuates the monastic tradition of blending rich bodied mature ale with fresh young ale to give a mellow flavor with a depth of character. Old Suffolk English Ale is a blend of OLD SX, a unique individual ale left in giant oak casks for two years to mature and a mellow and fresh ale called BPA, which is added just before bottling to give a perfect blend of age and life.

LCBO advanced tasting- This pours a faintly carbonated copper liquid, with just a petit amount of beige dusting. Nice malt based aroma(toasty, roasted malts, bready) with woody, nutty, burnt sugars. Flavours are a wonderfully balanced interpretation of the aromas. Lots of vanilla/wood, with sweet nutty malts, toasty, with a smidge of the ABV shining through. Very warming, and dangerously drinkable. Finishes with a big malt bang, and a wonderful warmth.

I agree with the cookie comments on previous ratings. Pretty nice malty and slightly spicy brew here. Medium to thick bodied, and pleasantly warming all around. I'll likely get every now and then...

Really great oaky and bready aroma. Nicely darkish brown color with huge white head. Taste has some distant hops and cookies in there. Aftertaste is abit weak but refreshing.

Dark ruby, almost dark brown, almost no foam head. smells fruity, pear. Taste is intense, toffee with pear. Interesting beer. Nice long disturbing taste aftertaste. (Rome 201205)

Hear ye bier ye. Nice healthy nasal nose. Good ale, Very well crafted but it's not my cup of tea. Sure enough its a good brew, I feel a sense of royalty when I drink it, like I'm the king of England or something.

I thought this beer was top notch, best of style, and a personal favorite. The aroma is dark fruit like plum or raisin, there is also a sour smell that tingles the nose every time you take a drink, its wonderful. The appearance is a dark red with a ring about a centimeter thick that lasts the whole drink. The mouthfeel is heavy and has a good amount of carbonation. I could drink this beer all day. The flavor has a good combination of sweet and sour. The oak is present and there is a fruit and burnt toast flavor. Overall i loved this beer and would love to try the Olde SX!

Deep brown body. Not much head, a little lacing ground. Very little bittering, very little indication of hops. That in itself is not necessaily a bad thing. This one has very strong influence of bread, caramel, fruits. A nice, snooth mouthfeel.

Pours an light, slight cloudy brown with a nice creamy head and ample lacing. Some carbonation but not much. Aromas of malts, oaken vanilla, slight hops, and a minuscule bit of whiskey. Taste is malty with a slight sourness of aged oak and very slight vanilla.

A good beer, but I didn't find it as impressive as the other reviews would suggest. Ruby highlights compliment the dark body and tan head. I found the aroma quite subtle, with some toffee hints. The flavour also presented burnt toffee, with some nutty, slightly sweet malts. Light body, fairly surprising given that the head was enjoyably creamy. I find this to be slightly below the local brewpub's old ale, which I enjoy more. This needs some more complexity in its flavour profile to compete with that one. As it stands though it is far from poor.

Pours a dark ruby with a tan two finger head, that settles slowly to a thin swirling cap, leaving behind a very nice webbing of lace. Smell; caramel, chocolate and cherries all come out up front. There's a nice touch of an oakey dryness, and slightly vinous. Taste; theres's chocolate covered cherries, caramel malts and dried figs. The oakiness is really blended well, and doesn't become overpowering. A bit of a sourness comes out as this gets warmer along with some vinous qualities, and a little alcohol burn in the finish. A very nice, relaxing beer. Mouthfeel is a bit on the thin side, but this is still very easy to drink.

Limited batch recieved at the LCBO (I assume). Pours a deep copper colour with a beige head. Active carbonation and small lacing. At first, I got a sour note and roasted malt for scent. Then, turned into a rusty-hoppy one. Then, got some caramel malt aromas with light fruit. Quite a nice roller-coaster ride for the nose. The mouthfeel is slightly bubbly and syrupy. Excellent mild taste of caramel that is not too sweet, mixed with the hop in the background, and slight burnt wood in the aftertaste. Quite enjoyable and recommended from a great brewer.
