Sampler, darker yellow color with white foam head. Nice bitter hoppy aroma and similar taste, good IPA. (Cleveland 201210) Pitty I only had such a small glass to drink

I had this beer at a pub in Chicago on April 11, 2012. This beer was just "okay" by me. It is nothing to get excited about given all of the wonderful IPA options available.

Pours a pretty apricot color with small, swirly head. The aroma is bright with citrus and grassy notes. The flavor is moderately bitter; floral, minerally, crisp. Medium bodied with perfect carbonation: somewhat effervescent and really suiting to the beer. A good IPA. Thanks Kinger!

disclaimer: apparently the date on the bottle (otherwise unmarked) is a best by, not bottled on. so this beer was well past it's prime, though freshly bought. high expectations and a bad 1st impression of this one. for the record, english ipas aren't my first choice. the hop aroma at 43 degrees is nearly non-existent, and the beer poured as close to yellow as orange. athe flavor was better, fruit up front, with some bitterness in the finish. well rounded if not exceptional. the aroma opened up, but took far too long to do so. i can kinda sorta see why some people really like this one, but for me, it was close to average. not enough hop aroma or flavor for an IPA, and a slight disappointment from Great Lakes, of which there are few.

Clear, yellow/gold/light orange color. Light yellow highlights around the bottom. A slight off white head of nice size with good retention and some average lacing. A few large bubbles in the head, but overall it was mostly creamy and a bit rocky. The nose was some fruity citrus of orange, tangerine, grapefruit. Rather laid back. Not quite the presence of most IPA's I've had. A malt backbone of yeast and bread. Balanced pretty well. A bit piny. All in all, pretty good though. Some earthy tones round it out. Laid back flavors of grapefruit citrus. Again, not as prominent as most IPA's. Nice bit of hop bitterness. Some bready tones. Seems more malty than citrusy. Meidum, dry mouthfeel. Snappy, crisp, smooth. Covers the palate nicely. Leaves me wanting another sip. Easily drinkable at 7.5% ABV. Not as robust as others, but still a good brew and one that I would pick up again. This kind of reminds me of an "ESB" only a tad more bitter. Nothing overly complicated. Just down right enjoyable.

Pours a orange to cooper color with a nice medium head that was slow to disappear. The aroma was of flora hops. The taste was good but with like all IPA's for me the hoppy aftertaste is just to bitter to enjoy them.

UPDATED: MAY 22, 2010 Beer pours golden yellow, clear as day with a nice frothy head that leaves superb lacing all over the glass from top to bottom. I bought a sixer of this today and had two tonight. I felt it was a bit on the syrupy side. The malt profile was grainy sweet with maybe a tinge of that liquid that comes in the bottom of fruit cocktail. The best by date on the bottle was 7/1 (a full two months from now), but this had sweetness characterists of a bottle of IPA who’s had it’s hop bitterness fade with age. It just lacked a crispness that should be present in a good IPA.

Not much aroma at all. Pours a darker amber with a nice fluffy head that dissipates quickly. Alcohol is a little strong and you can taste it but it isn't off the wall. Taste like a very full bodied IPA, plenty of the good stuff. Aftertaste is a tad bitter and a tad dry. Great IPA. Will have again.

Had my brother pick me up a bunch of GL brews after hearing so many good things about the brewery. This is the first one I cracked open and I am sad to say I am a little disappointed. Aroma and taste were lacking the bitter, hoppy kick I was expecting from a higher ABV IPA. More of a mild English style IPA (or my bottle was old enough for the hops to fade considerably).
