Looking for something a little different? Brewed with rice and barley malts, Samurai is an easy drinking, unfiltered ale that changes the status quo for unfiltered beers. The addition of rice gives Samurai a slightly fruity, crisp, refreshing and clean taste. This is definitely not your everyday unfiltered beer.

The beer pours a slightly hazed straw yellow with a rocky off-white head that lasts a couple of minutes. Aroma is light biscuit malt, rice, spicy hops, and yeast. Mouthfeel is average. Flavor is malt-forward with a definite grainy sweetness that is not offset by the hoppy bitterness.

bottled. Yellowish golden colour, small white head. Aroma is sweet malts, some wheat, mild grassyness as well as mild herbal notes. Flavour is sweet bready malts, some nectar, fruits, grass and herbs. Quite bitter in the finish.

A blonde ale that clocks in at 5.2% is not something that I would equate the term 'samurai' with. A straw coloured pour with a minimal white head. Aroma is grainy with a hint of light fruit and hops. Flavour is slightly sweet with a bitter finish. Mediocre describes this brew.

Aroma is fairly strong, mainly yeasty with a floral undertone. It pours a bright clear yellow with a very thick and fine-bubbled white head that dissipates slowly and leaves some decent lacing. Flavor is malty and yeasty with a floral hint, nothing special but still OK. Texture is fairly smooth with just a little fizz. According to the bottle, this beer is brewed with rice, just as sake is; technically, sake is actually beer since it is made from grain rather than fruit. (I have heard that a lot of industrial mega-brews use rice as well.) Overall, not too shabby.

I've got a blackbelt in akido -- and the boots to match .. . Pours a medium gold, light foam .. . light rice pudding and hay aromas .. . pretty basic mouth, but clean .. . i actually really like this, i wonder what a fresh sample would taste like, bottled Dec 29, 2010 .. . Just one thing puzzles me, There was not one single mention of the stolen jewels...

A cloudy yellow colored beer. There’s a moderate sized, frothy textured white head that rises briefly above. Settles into a thick soapy ringlet. Let this one warm. It gets better. At first the nose is faint. But, again as it warms, I get cereal grains, rice perhaps in the nose. The flavoring is equally nondescript. A light-to light medium body, some smoothness save this one. And, in the end it easy enough to drink.

Light, hazy yellow color with brighter yellow highlights around the bottom. Bright, white, soapy, 2-finger head with better than average retention and better than average lacing. The smell provided notes of citrus. Mostly bready and bicuit malts. They seem to be a bit stronger than the citrus. As it warmed the citrus revealed lemon and orange. Maybe even a touch of spice in there. In the taste, I found light touches of lemon plus a bit of the rice. Small amounts of bitterness add some bite. Some wheat touches come through in the middle. Seems to be balanced fairly well, but it's just a bit weak. Medium to thin mouthfeel. Crisp and refreshing. Somewhat dry. Leaves a good showing on the palate. Just enough to savor the flavor. This brew isn't bad. I would be able to down several of these after doing some yard work duing the Summer. Easily drinkable and refreshing. Just a tad tame with the flavor and aroma.

fruity and crisp as advertised. cloudy yellow tight carbonation. this would pass for a nice enough brew (especially in the sumer) for most breweries, but not great divide. probably my least favorite for this great brewer.

I didn't think this was so bad. Sure, if you go into it in a mood for a Barley Wine or something this is definitely not, then yeah - you're gonna hate it. It is pale blond, foamy white head, very active carbonation, smooth, bready, earthy, spicy, citrusy with a very crisp finish. Very nice on a hot day, unfortunately overpriced for what it is. It is what it is, and makes for a decent representation of style. I usually hate beers like this!

I'm not a huge cream ale fan, but I expected more from Great Divide based on previous experience. It was so-so... the aroma, appearance and initial taste was nothing special - completely lacking in complexity. The finish was not good at all - horrible after taste - tried two differnt bottles from two different stores...
