The beer pours a semi-translucent brown colour with red hues and a dark tan frothy head. The aroma is roasted malt, yeast, and earthy notes. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, almost champagne-like, with above average carbonation. The flavour is roasted malt, burnt wood, and a bit or tart/funk. An interesting take on a style I could care less about to begin with.

35,5cl bottle from Microbar, Manchester. Pours very dark brown with a beige head. Malty and yeasty aroma with dark fruits (ripe plums?), spices, rye bread and hints of licorice, chocolate and roasted malt. Moderate sweet with nice dark malty, fruity and yeasty flavours with some lightly sour notes and a somewhat dry finish with peppery notes. Well balanced. Interesting, different and quite delicious.

Pours dark blood red with the slightest film of a head. The aroma is of sweet malt and fruit. The mouthfeel is solid but not thick. The taste is smooth with just a little zip maybe due to the high ABV.

A deeply dark brown colored beer with a big sudsy textured, light tan head rising above. There was decent hang time on the head. Settles into a thin ringlet. Light roasted malt in the nose. More intense in the tasting with some dark fruit thrown in. Medium bodied, a little slick.

2013 edition at the LCBO, in a brown wine bottle, but with a beer cap. Bottled 12 FEB 2013. Pours a dark copper colour with a dark beige head, decent retention and some creamy lacing. Looks clean so far. Aromas of sweet malts with mild dark fruits, chocolate notes and some light Belgian Ale yeast. Gets sweeter with time and even candy shows up. The taste is not as sweet though. More on the hoppy side with mild grass, creating a little dry mouthfeel. Yeast over the light spices. Wishing more of the flavours for this one, but nice to have a dark Saison.

My third bottle of this great wacky saison/bier de garde - it grows on you - forget convention here is a ale with farmhouse roots that sould grace the table at special occasions. Deep clear brown with ruby highlights, massive tn cap lasts and laces your glass. Very subtle noe - some roasty sweetness and grassiness. Flavour is really unique, rasty , nutty but with some hints of fruit , hops sit back and guide the brew to the finish which is lightly hopped , cocoa and a light sweetness in the finish - if you don't use this ale to wash down some red meat yer nutz!

Pours a murky dark brown/ black body with a foamy khaki head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Foamy streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of toasted malt, spices, slight peppery aromas, and Belgian yeast. Taste is much the same with a mild roasty and spice bitterness on the palate with each sip. It has many stout attributes, which almost overpower the Belgian ones, but its kind of interesting. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer.

I picked this beer up from the Wine Gourmet in Roanoke, VA. This beer was a nice Saison from Goose Island - I liked the peper corn ... a nice bit of spice to an already very nice beer.
