Poured copper/aluminum color with huge pillowy white head. Sweet malty aroma with a touch of aromatic hops and that characteristic yeasty smell that comes off a lot of English "real" ales. Thin to medium body that is at the same time crisp and refreshing, yet sweet and full. Biscuity sweet malt flavors, little to no alcohol presence, muted English hops in the background. This is what I expect when I sit down to an Enlgish ale. Very nice combination of full malt complexity without being too sweet or oily.

I love how a beer can be 6.3% and the British call it a 'strong' ale. The beer pours a nice light golden brown, clear, with a foamy white cap that sticks to the sides. Aroma is caramel, nuts, light floral hops, and Fuller's yeast! Mouthfeel is average. Flavor is malty with caramel and grains, and the finish is lightly bitter.

Aroma is rich and malty with a smoky, almost stout-like undertone. Color is a clear brown, somewhere between mahogany and dark caramel; head is thin but fine-bubbled. Rich flavor has strong hoppy overtone and strong smoky and nutty hints. Texture is pleasantly smooth. This is one ale for sipping and savoring rather than just gulping.

Clear brown color with light brown foam head. Aroma is pleasant bitter with tones of nuts. Taste is strong bitter malty, some fruit in aftertaste. A really good beer, this is. (Velp 201302)

pours out a deep red-brown color with a small off-white head. The aroma has dark fruits, toffee, caramel, honey, chocolate, and some spicing. The taste is good, with roasted malts, dark fruits, chocolate, spices, toffee and cream. The mouthfeel is medium bodied finishes dry and smooth.

Totally forgot this brew in my cellar and realized I had never rated it. Passed its best before date, but still looks and smells great. Let's try it !! Pours a darker amber colour with a mahogany hue. Great off-white frothy head with very good retention and foamy lacing. Aromas of raisins with caramel malts and nuts. Wet mouthfeel and medium-bodied. Flavours of roasted malts, dates, other dark fruits and sweet malts. The raisins smell and taste become more dominant. I guess, this is where it is outdated, but nonetheless, it still is good to drink and interesting.

Part of the recent Fuller's release at the LCBO. Quite similar to the Golden Pride in a lot of ways, especially colour and aroma. The 1845 has a harsher more bitter finish however, resulting in a lower score for me.

I have not yet been disappointed by Fuller's beers. This one, a murky amber-brown colored beer with a medium sized frothy textured, beige head rising above. Some hang time on this one. Settles into a thick soapy ringlet and globs of film aside the glass. The feel of that frothy head and lacing is refreshing. The nose is of bread and dark fruit. As is the taste with the added note of grassy hops. All so well crafted and balanced in a medium bodied, well carbonated drink.

Amber, copper and burnt orange in color. Some dark yellow highlights around the bottom. Off white, creamy, nicely thick head. The head really stuck around and had very nice retention. The aroma came off with some fragrances of alcohol. Also, got some hints of a buttery note combined with some fruit in the nature of grapes and dried raisin and plums. Picking up some bread or biscuit malts also. A lot going on here. The taste shows the dry breadiness with an alcohol punch. The fruit sweetens the dryness. Tastes a bit like a fruit cake. No bitterness to speak of. Seems pretty well balanced. Medium mouthfeel. Dry and smooth. Covers the palate decently with a bit of the alcohol warmth. This beer is pretty good. Maybe just a bit more of the alcohol flavor than I typically like, but still enjoyable. Very solid and a good change for me. I wouldn't mind having this on occasion for sure.

not strong for a strong ale, but very smooth and quite flavorful. slight spicy, fruity hints play with the overiding malty goodness. recommended beer...
