The Ryehopper began as a fall seasonal and has now found it's way into our regular line-up. The brewers noticed a lack of rye beers in the Asheville area and wanted to fill that gap. This beer represents assistant brewer Chris Richards' first recipe released by the brewery. The malted rye contributes both a rounded maltiness and a sharp earthy flavor, bridging the maltiness of the barley and the bitterness of the hops. In essence, the Ryehopper is a hoppy rye beer. Seriously, what else did you expect?

Pours a clear reddish amber that is almost mahogany. Malty aroma has a rye overtone and hoppy and yeasty hints. Strongly hoppy flavor has a firm rye tone and only a little bitterness. Texture is rough, fizzy and ragged. This one is a joy to drink if you like a firm, sassy, earthy beer.

This poured an amber color with an off white head. The aroma contains some rye, citrus, and toffee. The flavor is bready probably that darn rye stuff it says. I should do this for a living. I also get a bit of citrus in there and more toffee. Overall a pretty decent beer.

On tap @ Barley's in Knoxville. Clear copper amber pour with minimal head (bartender's fault - not beer's) and good lacing. Earthy rye and malts up front in the aroma with some floral and citrus hops. Taste is rye and bitter hops with a slight grapefruitiness then some maltiness. Finishes dry and with a hops bitter lingering. A very nice addition to the French Broad lineup.
