"Holy Hop, Batman, this beer has aroma." Hops are casted nine different times, it’s a breath-deep-and-shudder-with-pleasure kind of scent that’s all from the Citra hops. With a high alpha acid of 11%, Citra has a cacauphony of flavours and aromas --Citrus, passion fruit, grapefruit, lime, melon, lychee fruit, pineapple, mango, and papaya – and dominates this beer. Smashbombs olfactory tropical explosion shockwaves your face every time you lift the meringue foam towards you. It’s like the ecru-coloured top of a beer pie before it gives up and grips the glass. You can see the Victory malt’s signature in the amber lights in what is primarily a deep golden beer. And, yes, don’t be fooled --there’s malt going on here, too, as you’ll see in the firey body of this ale that makes Smashbomb Atomic look like it radiates its own energy. With the first taste, Smashbomb’s 70 IBUs are pronounced. This brew is a little bitter, but bitter like a grapefruit with three tablespoons of sugar on top. It’s also incredibly drinkable. The oddity that’ll keep you tipping the glass is that as this citrus peel front subsides, you actually gleen the sweet flavours of the Victory and Crystal malts. Then, as the bread-puddin’ bicuity sweetness of the malts are chased by the dry, tropical flavour of Citra and the fruit punch bouquet is all in your face with each sip, it’s all is so damn intriguing, you’ll be driven to keep on sampling...and sampling.

At one time, this was perceived to be one of the bitterest IPAs in Canada, but over time either my tongue has adjusted, or the IBUs have been toned down. Either way, it is still a very drinkable IPA. The beer pours a murky golden orange with a generous tan coloured head. The aroma is citrusy hops, caramel, and light grains. The flavour is an in your face grapefruit punch tempered by some caramel sweetness.

I had this beer at West 50 Pourhouse in Mississauga Ontario on Friday night August 24 2012. WOW, tons of hoppiness (goodness) in this beer. Looks like any other IPA beer, amber coloured, clear with a nice head, but the aroma and taste of the hops is fantastic.

"Beauty is in the eye of the beer holder". haha, or so says the bottom of the beer cap. Clever. Holy hops is right! Little head is formed from pour, just a blanket covered brew, next to no lacing. Deep amber appearance. Aromas are strong, grains, lots of citrus names flying around. Lots of flavours as well, heavy on the hops, notes of lemon/lime and grapefruit. Pretty bitter at first. About halfway and the hops seem average (or above). Still well worth it!

So much sweet caramel, tons of hops.....LOVE THIS AROMA!!!!! Looks like a beer. Peachy with tons of citrus zest. So many hops so little time. Carbonation stings the mouth in a soft way. Taste is not nearly as good as the aroma but still dam tasty. Earthy caramel with a medium bitter finish. Peach, lemon, some mild ashtray. Spicy after taste that lingers in flavorless bitterness. This a great easy to drink beer....its almost an epic one.

Well, it looks like the LCBO now has this in a 6-pack and at a 6% ABV. Pours a clean deeper amber colour with a big frothy off-white head that has great retention and dirty lacing. Great fresh nose of hop, but not too killer (hints of grapefruit and pine needles) with a nice grainy malt background. Very smooth mouthfeel, well-balanced between the dryness and silky wetness. Starts on a bitter note, but finishes slightly dry with the grain lingering (and a bit of bitterness). A great Canadian IPA that has balls and really shows what hop can do.

Anyway it’s a nice looking label. This beer looks good and has lots of flavour, nice head and lacing but it’s not for me. Tastes like yonks old strong tea and perfume. If that’s papaya I’m tasting it should be left in tea or as a meat tenderizer.

Peter Chiodo is a great man with a great beer sense, unfortunately the powers that be at the Liquor Control Board of Ontario think his beer has offensive names and won't sell it in their stores. This is a great American style IPA with a lot of hoppiness in the aroma and taste. Scrumptious.

I tried this beer on March 18, 2011 at "Smookeless Joe's" in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The beer poured a translucent copper colour with a thick foamy tan head. The aroma was sweet caramel malt and a huge citrusy hop whallop. The muothfeel was medium bodied with medium carbonation. The flavour was grapefruity hops nicely balanced with a nice malty hint. Great beer! -

Pours like a craft IPA_ lightly hazed deep gold-amber, 2 finger tight white cap, decent lacing. Aroma is like an exotic fruit bouquet...citrus comes forward, sweet malts hang in the background. Medium body with big west coast IPA character with huge hop presense without the negative effects of bittering. Flavour profile sees the big malting make an appearance fist but this instantly is sublimated below a complex omnipresent hop profile....fruits, herbs, citrus zest, ...goes to a clean dry finish with a massive citra hop kiss in the finish. Not even a hint of the alcohol is detected in the profile...too much flavor going on. I think this is One of the 2 best IPAs in Canada.
