Named after a black hole and a song, this is a porter like no other. We took an old English porter recipe, added some rye malt, and our porter was born. This brew floods your palate with hints of chocolate, biscuit and all-around roasty goodness with just a touch of smoke that finishes dry but is not overpowering. Perfect with roasts or fowl. Enjoy by the fire, and it will certainly warm you on any cold evening in the Great White North.

Pours a chocolate brown with a nice fluffy head that goes down fairly slow. Aroma is very strong of roasted malts, coffee, and smoke. Taste is heavy of roasted malts and a tad smokey but finishes off mild and a bit dry. Has something about it in the taste that I can't pick out. Very easy to drink!

Nice if not incredible porter. Cygnus X-1 pours a clear, dark cola brown with a medium beige head. The aroma consists of caramel, nuts, toast, bread, some chocolate and a bit of spicy rye. It’s a pleasant, subtle porter, somewhere between English and American in flavor. The taste is a lightly dry. There’s also a funny, slightly off flavor to the beer that I also tasted in Flat Earth’s Angry Planet. It’s not as strong here as it was there, but it’s still an odd bit of background noise. Mouthfeel is a tad thin and carbonation is prickly. Good beer but wouldn’t look to get another bottle.

Tasted at the February Northern California Beer Tasting. This porter pours a eclipse black color form a 22oz bottle. Medium sized tan foamy head. Aroma is chocolate, brown sugar and coffee. Medium to full bodied porter. Malts are chocolate and coffee, touch of smoke. A nicely flavored and bodied balanced porter. Very drinkable. Nice dry finish. Mouthfeel is very full. Finish is clean and dry. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

NorCal Feb '08 - A big thanks to faro99 for bringing this with him on his recent trip out West. This is just an outrageously tasty beer. Just sublime. Perfectly balanced is the key here. A nose of iced coffee, hazlenut, chocolate, dark brown sugar...man...nice. Appearance is dark chocolate/near black in color with a nice two finger thick head. Mouthfeel is creamy, silky smooth and oh so balanced with the carbonation. Flavors...whew...flavors are just mouthwatering coffee, roasted malts, nicely hopped, caramel. Reminds me of eating some kind of See's chocolate. The roasty bitterness and the sweet malts really hit it off. Amazingly easy to drink. Highly recommended.
