Elysian The Wise -- The Tasty, and of course the stupid if you have too much! All in all a special mixture of flavors and aromas. Great body a bit of sweetness balanced with measured bitterness. This is the second time I have had a brew from Elysian and both have been worth the effort to secure and enjoy.

a smooth creamy representation of the style, but it's a little unassuming compared to many of their other beers. well balnced, light and refreshing...nothing more or less. had again, and i appreciate how it stands up, at least a little, to elysians bigger brews.

Pours clear amber with a dense, creamy head. Aroma is bready and sweet, pleasant overall. The flavor is malty, but dryer with some earthy character. Medium bodied and fairly smooth.

Bottle from Larry Pitonka/5000. Pour was deep orangey amber in color, very generous whitish colored head, great lacing and retention for the style. The aroma was is full malty caramel with some citrus and piney hops. The flavor was full caramel, a touch of nutty toffee, but lots of piney hops, citrus notes, and faint spicey aspects. Full and creamy body, well carbonated. Thanks, Andre!

Bottle courtesy of SS: Poured a deep copper color ale with large fluffy head with average retention. Aroma of NW bitter hops is dominating with some nice caramel. Taste is probably bitterer then the style would suggest but who cares. Caramel malt is present and provides a nice balance. Good carbonation with a full body.

22oz bottle purchased in Spokane, WA. Pours a very clear reddish brown with a dense two finger head, that settles slowly to a thick cap, leaving behind a solid sheeting of lace. On the second pour the beer was very cloudy. Smell; very pleasant earthy and slightly spicy hops stand out at first. Smells pretty much how I would expect an ESB to be. There's also some nice caramel malts. Taste; the hops aren't quite as strong as I was expecting based on the aroma, but they're nicely there. In the beginning this is a bit earthy, with a good caramel malt backbone, and then finishes a little on the spicy side. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a nice smooth carbonation, and a very good drinkability. Overall a very good and easy to drink ESB that would be great for everyday drinking. I think this one would be really good on cask.

NoCal tasting Jan 07 - I was a little apprehensive with this beer to be honest, due to the last beer I had from Elysian (which was one of the worst I've ever had). This time around things were a bit different. Appearance was a cloudy brown color with a normal sized head. Aroma was caramel, toffee with a small dose of hops. Flavors had an obvious light citrusy hop profile, a little astringent with an average finish. Much better than the last garbage I had from them.

(On cask at the PP Real Ale Festival 2006) Pours with an orange-amber body topped by a thick creamy head with a good amount of lacing. It’s bitter and piney with an underlying malty sweetness. Medium bodied and smooth.
