A special twist on the Finnish style Sahti, brewed at Nøgne Ø in cooperation between Dugges Brewery, Sweden, and Nøgne Ø of Norway. Brewed with rye and wheat, sea wormwood from the Swedish archipelago, juniper twigs from the Norwegian forests, honey from heather flowers in Telemark and three selected yeast strains from Belgium, Germany and Britain, and of course, some malt and hops too.

sampled on 11/6/09. 500 ml bottle with mitch. pours a slightly cloudy amber/gold color. thin head. aroma is juniper, honey. taste is juniper, sweet, spicy. i dont even know what some of this stuff is supposed to taste or smell like. ok, mainly the wormwood confuses me. body is medium/full. aftertaste is lightly sweet. hides the alcohol well.

Bottle from SL, shared by my good bud, Sloth. The pour was golden to amber in color, ok head for the sahti style (yes, I’m well-versed there). The aroma was cedar-wood like elements (wormwood, dunno), spices, junipers. The flavor followed, some lactic to dry wheat elements, light citrus, seemingly pale-pilsner lager, spices, juniper, wood, honey (even though I assumed it would have fermented and been all gone). The mouthfeel was light, somewhat flat mouthfeel. Thanks, Bert!

Sampled on 11/6/09. This traditional ale pours a dark orange gold color from a 50cl bottle. Medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is malt, juniper, honey, spicy and sweet. A medium bodied traditional ale. The malts are fruity and sweet, orange, orange peel, juniper and spruce. The hops are herbal. Lively carbonation with lots of little bubbles showing throughout the taste. An interesting blend of malt, hops and spices. Hides the 11% alcohol very well. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

Pours out in a hazy amber colour with a small disappearing white head. Rich aroma of honey, juniper, yeast, spices, apricots and alcohol. Full-bodied with notes of juniper, honey, orange-peels, cookies and neutral yeast. Long waming finish of honey, cookies, yeast, citric fruits and juniper. A very interesting brew but not much like a traditional Finnish Sahti IMHO.

500 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 11%. Deep golden colour, slightly hazy / honeyish, with a big off-white head. Very nice aroma of juniper, heather honey and hops. The mouthfeel is rich, warming and alcoholic. The flavour has loads of honey (too much) and malty sweetness. Notes of juniper too, very moderate bitterness. Interesting, but too sweet. A fairly nice sipping beer all the same.
