This beer is collaboration between Dogfish Head, Stone Brewing Co. (Escondido, CA), and Victory Brewing Company (Downington, PA). The idea for this beer germinated way back in 2003 when the three guys (Sam from Dogfish, Greg from Stone and Bill from Victory) formed the BUFF alliance (Brewers United for Freedom of Flavor) - a noble endeavor with the goal to highlight the passion and camaraderie of the American craft brew movement. So, BUFF didn't really do anything (beyond talk a lot of talk) until 2010 when the three brewers finally got together to jointly brew at beer at the Stone Brewery. Saison du BUFF will first be brewed at Stone and then replicated at each of the other two breweries - same recipe, same ingredients, three different breweries throughout 2010. Plans call for Saison du BUFF to be a 6% alc/vol Saison brewed with parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme. This beer will be brewed three times, once at each brewery using the same recipe. The expected release dates for each brew are as follows: Stone Brewing Co.- Late April 2010 (release date 5/3/2010, visit Stone Brewery for more information)

Rated April 2011. 12oz bottle pours out clear copper with two inch tall tan head. The aroma emit spicy hops, yeasty spices, orange, tangelo and tangerine like citrus hops as well as some apple and lemon. The taste jumps across the palate with a fairly vigorous level of carbonation creating bold notes of apples, herbs, floral hops, spices, lemon, lime, a pinch of grapefruit and a low murmur of earthiness from the deep reaches of the beer- space. Occasionally I get a bit of saltiness too right at the start of the swig. Good stuff.

Picked up a bottle at the Beverage Warehouse, Burlington, VT. Pours a massive frothing bubbly white head and has a slightly hazy golden appearance. Excessive carbonation. Big patchy lacing. Strong herbal aromas at the forefront, mostly the rosemary and thyme, with a little bit of grass and yeasty notes. Flavours are also herbal and grassy, some greens are apparent, the parsley in particular along with some of the more sour type citrus fruit. Crisp and dry mouthfeel. Pretty good!

Golden yellow pour with a huge white head. Really nice floral aroma but the taste, mouthfeel and appearance were average at best. Perhaps a little bit of skunkiness to it as well. Pass

smells like an IPA spilled into the salad plate. Grassy notes with rosemary at first and then parsley predominating. Not an attractive nose but hey the Brewers are having fun! Pale gold body topped by a nice white head with excellent retention and minimal lace. Mouth is too watery. Tastes like a funked up pills. The herb notes are NOT subtle, it's like half IPA and half parsley extract. And salty! Look.. The Brewers had fun, hats off to them, just buy it once.

Hazy golden yellow with frosty white foam head. Aroma is fruity, taste is low bitter but spicy, peppery even. Long aftertaste in particular on back of tongue. Interesting beer. (Houston 201301)

Golden appearance with a white head. Aroma contains some citrus, coriander, very herbal. Flavor contains some lemons, peaches, grassy notes. A very sour flavor to this one. Overall this is different but good.

Meh...gimmicky. it smells like a herb garden, looks hazy piss yellow, and its just not that great. It does have a decent bitterness, but that's kinda it. I'm just not that into the gimmicky beers.

Brewed at Dogfish Head brewery. Thought this may be funkier than it was, so only bought a single to sample. Good enough to get a 4-pack now. The herbs actually work and not too overpowering. This had some IPA qualities, so maybe a hybrid IPA/Saison instead of Belgian IPA? Not as malty as most IPAs, but has some good malt and citrus hop to it. Yellow appearance on the pale side, not too much orange here. Grassy and citrusy aroma. A good beer for the summer season....light bodied but with a kick,

Malty aroma has a VERY strong overtone of rosemary. Yes, definitely rosemary. It pours a clear solar yellow with a thick and fluffy white head that hangs around for a little. Not inspiring, but this is a saison and I am a stoutie. Flavor has a malty core and - whoa Nellie, that rosemary flavor hits the taste buds like a Hummer! It has some grassy, woody and hoppy undertones and a fair amount of bitterness. Definitely a sipping beer. Flavor has good body and plenty of tingle and sass. I love these collaboration beers.

Sampled at #KnoxBeerCrew tasting. Slightly hazy golden yellow pour, nice white head and lacing. Garden aroma: lots of herbs, definitely get the parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme, yeasts, very slight funk, some lemon zest. Flavor mimics the nose with an herbal taste, not overwhelming but not my favorite - like a salad - then some fruits, yeasts and citrus.
