355ml bottle
6.0% ABV
Milton LCBO Outlet #1 (Milton, Ontario, Canada)
November 12, 2008
The beer poured a translucent reddish-gold with a generous light tan head that lingered. The aroma was hoppy with definite floral hints and citrusy tones. The mouthfeel was medium bodied, slightly high in carbonation, and crisp. The flavour was citrusy grapefruit through and through. An excellent refreshing beer. As this is now sold in LCBO stores in Ontario - I hope Canadian brewers take note and start brewing similar beers by the oceanful.

Bottle. Colour - medium golden orange, cloudy, huge white head, good lacing. aroma - grapefruit hops, biscuity malt, hints of spice. Mouthfeel - full bodied, well carbonated. Flavour - nicely balanced with bready malt flavours up front and a citrus hop bite in the finish. Not as hoppy as the 90 minute, but better balanced.

Picked up a 19.2 fl.oz. can at the Craft Beer Cellar in Waterbury, VT during a short vacation. My first beer from this brewery finally, long overdue! Pours a nice big frothy creamy off-white head and has a pale golden appearance. Leaves behind some thick dirty lacing. Medium retention. Aromas of floral and herbal hops as well as some citrus notes. Flavours are mostly herbal and floral hops, the citrus notes are also quite apparent. Nice bitterness on palate, nothing over the top. Lively carbonation. Has a nice crisp and slightly dry finish. Enjoying this one while taking in one of the first beautiful spring days we've had so far. Good stuff!

Widely considered 90 minute IPA's redheaded stepsister, this brew is satisfying and disappointing at the same time. Good pour, appearance and mouthfeel. Taste is grainy and hoppy. Clean finish. Satisfying because it's good. Disappointed its not the 90.

Poured a red/brown color, sort of resembling apple cider, with a medium white head. Fair amount of lace on the glass. Surprisingly tame hop/spice to it. Very nice beer.

Clear golden yellow with bubbly snow white foam head. Bit carbonated. Good feeling in mouth. There are various fruits present, but also bitter hop taste. One of my first IPA's to be reviewed.(Houston 201201)

Enjoyed many pints on a recent trip to Las Vegas and found this to be the perfect "middle of the road" beer between the cheap lagers on the strip and high-end brews I sought out. Beautiful lacing and huge head on top of a light orange body. Plenty of citrus with some pine and grass notes in the aroma; similar flavor with a bitter, resiny finish.

Hmm. This was not as expected. I've had this quite a few times and well...I have higher expectations from DFH and this beer in particular and they were not met. Pours expected golden but not as orange. LOW white head. Mouth not nearly there as usual, where's the bite? Flavor good but not as big as usual. Normally this is a very consistent brew and of course the time I finally get around to rating it, it disappoints a bit. Will follow up.

Very clear straw to light orange in color. A few bubbles coming up from the bottom. An off white, fluffy, rather large head. Very good retention and some nice lacing. This beer has a clean smelling grassy type of aroma combined with some piny notes. Also, hints of some fruity orange and tinges of grapefruit. The fruitiness is really more of a background fragrance. The grapefruit is a bit more prominent in the flavor, but it is still a touch relaxed. Some well rounded bitterness plus the grassy, grainy zing follows the aroma characteristics. A minor tone of the alcohol, but nothing out of place. Smooth, medium/light bodied mouthfeel. Rather dry and some aspects of the alcohol warmth. This brew seems like a combination of an IPA, a Belgian Strong Ale and a Pilsener. It's very well balanced, even, enjoyable and drinkable. It's very genuine and good. I like it. This could be a great introductory IPA. Worth a try for sure.

The first time I tried this beer it was fantastic, along with brooklyns IPA and the 90-minute, it was my first introduciton into the fantastic world of IPA. Still a good beer, years after its release it has been downgraded to just average. The Amarillos are prevelant. Citrusy and a bit bitter, malts are plain, which could be perceived as a blank canvas to paint the hops on, or perceived as a regular IPA with little complexity. Its fairly intense, and the flavours are good, nothing that prevents me from enjoying the beer. I might have to be imagining, or have had a couple to find the cinnamon and cedar in the brewers description. There is a slightly hop/woodsy note but I would not say cedar, perhaps wet hemlock. Or wet pine, definaely wet though, no fresh cut wood smells/tastes at all. Not that I have ate much wood, fresh cut or otherwise. I could be imagining it, but there might be a bit of white pepper showing up in the aroma after it has warmed. Great starter beer, ok session beer, dece....
