I had this beer at "The Quarter" in Roanoke, Virginia. This was a nice dark lager - I really enjoy the Schwarzbier style beer. I wish there were more available.

First thing you notice is the incredible aroma that rises from your glass, which aroses the senses. However, one drink brings you back to reality, while good the beer just can't seem to live up to expecations that arise from the initial aroma. Pours thin with virtually no head to speak of. fits well with several different cajun meals.

Bottle claims this brew is a lager! Pours very dark for a lager, has a smooth body rather similar to some of the popular English ales with a rather sweet overbody. Expensive, not something to buy in bulk for your next tailgater.

A mahogany colored beer with a big creamy, light beige head rising above. Decent hang time on this one. Settles eventually into a thick ringlet and peaks rising in short tips along the sides. All that follows in nose and tasting could be bolder and this one would be a major hit. There is a nondescript sweetness and roastiness in the nose. The tasting would be better if the body was so distracting in the near watery body. The tasting is a blending of some citric hops and caramel.

not your average average beer, though that's what my score indicates. instead of being average throughout, there's aspects i liked, and aspects that i didn't. like-cool sweet malt aroma, creamy feel and flavor with a nice tasty finish of mostly roasted and sweet malt. didn't like-alcohol being evident at 5%, little to no depth. the look was the only thing average here, but overall, an average brew.

Scored from a trade with Bluesandbarbq. I poured this out and was surprised by how dark it was; seeing schwarzbier at the top of this page sure explains a lot. Pours a dark mahogany, light and thin foam on top. Not much going on in the aroma dept. Flavor is rather one-dimensional, which is pretty much expected. I like it more as it warms up a bit; then the caramel flavor starts to come out more. A decent beer that I might not have found otherwise. Thanks Lou!

Recent find. Pours a clear thin mahogany black with a thinning cream head and some lacing. Somewhat carbonated but not overly. Slightly sweet aromas with a touch of toasted malts, some sweet milk chocolate, slight molasses, a hint of wet cardboard, and some hops. Mouthfeel is just a bit thin. Taste of lightly toasted malts, some milk chocolate, a touch of molasses and very little hops or bitter. Nice and easy to drink, but not a stellar Schwarzbier.

It pours a very dark/mahogany brown with light-tan head and some lace. An aroma of roasted malts, coffee, limes/citrus, and peppers and spice. The mouthfeel is smooth, silky and rich. Flavors of roasted malts, coffee bean, citrus, unsweetened choclate, and pepper/spice mix. This is good stuff..

Presentation: It was poured from a 12oz brown bottle into a pint glass. Appearance: The pour produces a light tan head of good size that slowly fades to much thinner covering. Lacing is slick and spotty. Underneath the head is a very dark amber liquid with reddish highlights and decent clarity. Smell: Its aroma is malty and sweet, candy like and a little roasted. Hops add a touch of floral and light citrus perfume like notes. Taste/Mouth: The flavor is sweet, malty, and bready with a light touch of caramel and a very slight hint of coffee like bitterness. There are also some nice mild roasted notes and well balanced hop flavor. The finish has more roasted notes and hop bitterness fading off the tongue. The texture is slightly thin and very drinkable with aggressive carbonation that has a little bite. Notes: It's a nice overall dark lager with a good balance of hops and malt. It reminded me of a light bodied, thinner Oktoberfest beer.

Pours a nice clear mahogany brown, and doesn't have much of a head - the foam dissipates fairly quickly. Aroma is fairly strong, smoky with undertones of malt and yeast. Flavor is typically lagerish, but has a firm smoky component, and hints of yeast. Texture is smooth and fizzy, a little on the thin side but not a downer. Not a great beer, but worth giving a try.
