The allusion to the pink elephant a consequence of a delirium tremens the day before, is not a chance. The reasons are multiple: first of all, the beer possesses a degree of high alcohol; and, on the other hand, irresponsible consumers sometimes suffer devastating effects of a too much consumption of alcohol. This beer became the classic of the brewery, appreciated especially for its qualities dégustatives, as well as the mystery that hides itself behind the gray partitions of his characteristic bottle. This blond perfect one stresses the qualities of an exceptional houblon as well as of different clear malts. She offers herself points aiguës bitterness, and unveils to the nose an astonishing malted coat. The conclusion combines a bitter and peppered tone without aggressiveness. She represents strong blond beer under its better appearance. She was sacred champion of the world of beers in 1998.

On tap at the Sharp Edge Bistro. Ubiquitous pale yellow american lager color and appearance. Creamy head. Mild sweet sugar of hardtack candy aroma. On the palate this stuff comes across rather mild at first. Reminds a bit of regular Augustijn. Opague lacing on the glass, completely covers the nakedness of this brew. Interesting, does not get in your face with the 9% alky, very well controlled. These Belgie’s really know how to do it when comes to hiding the alky, hardly ever do they get in yer face. Finish is rather mild and better behaved than the finish I experienced with the Augustijn. Mild candy like aftertaste. And now I notice that there has been a lack of carbonation during the session.

Deep golden color with floating matter throughout, head was a bubbly white. Sweet floral malt smell. Very bitter spicy flavor with long lasting malt taste.

Bottle pours crystal clear gold with 30 second off white head. The aroma is spicy yeast, tartness, green apples skins, a touch of black pepper and pears. The taste has sweet apples to start and then picks up tart yeasty spiciness. It stays that way into the finish where an upwelling of apple blends into a modestly dry after taste.

Small white head, short lived. Clear gold/yellow color. Medium body. Slight nose, fruity, malty honeyish. Sweet malt flavors, spicey. Finish is sweet, you can feel it warming as it goes down.

Draught. Colour - hazed medium gold colour, huge white frothy head, lots of lacing. Aroma - grains, belgian yeast, spices, light fruit. Mouthfeel - full bodied, well carbonated. Flavour - a little bit of tartness in the grain bill, some sweet malt, spices, and a definite Belgian yeast note.

One of the more renowned beers that comes out of Belgium. It pours a dark gold colour, slightly hazy, with a white cap that lingers. The aroma is candy sugar, light fruit, yeast, grains, and some floral hops. The flavour is light sweet fruits, some burnt candy, yeast, and dessert spices. One of the first Belgians I tried over 20 years ago, and one I return to every now and then.

Pours a semi cloudy yellow color with a big foamy head. The aroma is of apple, malt and banana. The taste has a slight heat like from pepper mixed with malt and very light note of banana.

Aroma and appearance wise, it was kind of a let down, only because it was not what I was expecting. The other qualities however - now that's more like it and where the beer redeems itself, and then some. Has that perfect Belgian blend of hopiness and maltiness/sweetness that just seems to work.

Had a pint at Sir John A in Ottawa. Arrived with a thin layer of fizzy foamy head. Golden yellow appearance. Has a mild hoppy aroma with some malts on the back end. Somewhat grassy as well. Flavours are fairly sweet, mostly on the hops side of things. A bit of malts. Some fruits, sorta lemony. Hint of banana and notes of apples and pears. Really tasty that's for sure! Tingling mouthfeel with a bit of tartiness. Pretty darn good stuff.
