Pours very dark brown with reddish hue and has no head. The aroma is of malt and a note of cherry. Mouthfeel is a little thin for such a dark beer. The flavor is not very complex almost bland but it is smooth.

Pours a dark black with a white head that dissapears fairly quickly. One thing I noticed is the lack of any significant carbonation after poured. Aroma is strong of coffee, malts, and dark chocolate. Taste is full bodied but a tad watered down. Taste is of roasted malts and coffee and is slightly sweet. Aftertaste is very mild and doesn't get dry. Overall a decent sipping brew.

It pours a slightly transparent brownish-red with a fairly thick light-tan head some lacing surrounding the head. An aroma of roasted malts, cocoa beans, coffee, hops, orange and citrus, nuttiness, raisins and dates, molasses, and an arrangement of spices. The mouthfeel is smooth and fairly rich. Flavors of roasted malts, hops, coffee beans, unsweetened chocolate, orange, raisins, nuts, and light spices. Very good altogether.

Reddish brown colored ale that is medium to full bodied. Initially I smelled the roasted nearly burnt malts. As I tasted the beer I tasted hints of licorice which was somewhat bitter with no sign of hops at all. As the beer came to room temperature it became much smoother and the burnt malts evolved into a roasted flavor. The best English porter I have ever had and look forward to having more in the future.

Bottled@SBWF2007. Deep amber colour, mediumsized white head. Aroma is really pleasantly roasted malts, some hoppy bitterness along with mild woodenness. Flavour is quite much the same. The roast stays really long and also has some mild candyish hints.

light brown color, a dusty, sooty malt aroma and palate, which is quite dry throughout. This beer, along with a couple of other traditional examples, uses the original 'brown malt', which defined the original porter style, but disappeared until very recently.

almost black, but very dark brown and almost solid bodied. disappoining head - there is almost none. lacing is light to moderate. aroma sweet of malts and a touch of coffee to it. initial mothfeel is carbonated, and just slightly bitter taste to it...more than your typical porter, but still very pleasing. moderately sweet malts and a very smooth aftertaste.

The aroma is nice with some coffee overtones as well as has some burnt malt aromas and is creamy-like. The appearance is a nice charcoal black but a nice rich amber to burgundy in color when held to the light with a minimal head on top that discipates to a light lacing that is light-tan in color and remains throughout consumption. The mouthfeel is surprisingly light in body and has some nice malty complexity with some nice balance as well with a palate that is velvety smooth and is wet-like. The flavor is nice and creamy with some creamy coffee coming through as well as some slight chocolate malts with an aftertaste that is a bit nutty as well as creamy and is smooth and tasty with a finish that is kind of robust but velvety smooth and is very nice. Overall, this is a nice and highly drinkable porter and would be a good session porter and is very smooth and velvety; nice porter here for sure.

Can drinking anything with an ingredient from 1825 be a good idea? Quick pour and no head. Very dark, but you can sort of see through it in the light. Has a lively sparkle on the tongue, but not annoying. Definitely coffee...chocolate...and I have to agree with "burnt" from the previous review. Overall it is very good, I think most who like Porters will dig this.

There is not much leave with the head out of the bottle pour with this one. But the bod is a heavy black, with odors of port wine or sherry. Bitter coffee bean notes are detectable on the buds, with a burnt, syrupy, and chewy mouthfeel. Compared to other porters, it is kind of flat with little sweetness, but Flag Porter is OK in its own right.
