Pours a dark black not unlike used motor oil, about the same viscosity as well. One finger dark chocolate head that goes away fast. Aroma is heavy of roasts. Taste is very heavy with hints of dark roasts, chocolate, oats, and a smidgen of noticeable alcohol. This is a pretty good stout!

Full bodied, smooth stout that's both sweet and roasty with a moderate bitterness. A great start to the Dark Horse stout series. Picked this up during a family vacation in Michigan.

Pours jet black with a decent head. The aroma was of roasted malts. The flavor was slighty watered down but its ok. Jusy needs a touch more up front. With so many stouts out there, not sure I'd hunt this one down.

Pours black with a short lived, tan head. Coffee and chocolate on the nose. Tastes of dark roast coffee, semi-sweet chocolate, almost burnt malt and smokey wood. Medium carbonation. Dry finish. Good stuff. Dark Horse is an up and coming Midwest craft brewer. Need to try again.

Bottle from Styles. A decent appearance, although it didn't jump out as outstanding by looking at it. After that, though, a darned nice brew. Excellent robust body and mouthfeel opens up and fortifies an outstanding and rounded flavor of light coffee and cocoa chocolate, very nice roasty touch and oatmeal finish. A solid oatmeal stout. Thanks so much, Chris.

had with stumac and melanie ... second session ... quite smokey and a bit meaty, bold for a oatmeal/sweet stout ... dark as a struck match in a box wearing a diving suit under water ... slick and oily, chewy stuff here ... sweet vanilla notes ... what did stu spill again??

Pours a dark brown colour with very little head. No lacing, and flavors of a dark roast coffee, and espresso beans. Aromas of dark chocolate and oak, a tad bit heavier and drier than most oat stouts, but very nice.

Thanks to someone (Immy perhaps?) for sending me this bottle. It's a nice stout for sure. It had a few things that could either be better or more pronounced, but the sum of the beer was clearly above average. The beer pours out of the bottle in a thick streak of ooey black goodness. It hits the glass and immediate creates a light chocolately brown head with tiny bubbles being the base for some big foamy bubbles. The head disappates rather quickly unfortunately and what's left is a black coffee looking brew with no semblance of a head. My sniffer picks up anise immediately. Sweet, roasted, wet malts are next. Some obvious coffee notes too. But underlying all of it is this odd irony, metallic character that is really unpleasant. It kinda reminds me of drinking a stout from a can character. Mouthfeel is smooth with a hotness brought on by the alcohol content, but as it warms up that disappears a bit. Flavor isn't horrible. Perhaps a step-up from average. Strong with coffee with a shot of alcohol clearly present. Some vinous notes started creeping in as it really got to room temp. Subtle chocolate notes that I wish were more prevelent were also popping up. I'd like to have my sweet stouts a bit sweeter than this as this was a bit dry I thought. Overall not bad. Not sure if I could (or would) drink more than a pint of this. It could have been more smooth, less alcoholic, a bit sweeter with more complexity. Overall, a nice beer.

Pours with a black body topped by a medium thick, brown head with some lacing. It’s sweet, malty and roasty with a nice chocolate and coffee note. Very nice. A slight hoppiness underlays the dominent flavors. Full bodied, smooth and a touch warming.
